In Havana, UN Presents World Population Report

Havana, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) Of 191 million of international immigrants
throughout the world, 95 million are women, states a new World Population
State Report presented at the UN headquarters in this capital.

Dedicated this year to "Women and International Immigration," a study by the
UN Population Fund (UNPF) states that women often work in the background,
their work not generally recognized, Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported
Wednesday.

The document reflects the UN criteria on effects of women's immigrant labor
in the countries of birth and destination, their participation in
international remittances, the scourge of trading human beings and
exploitation of domestic workers.

Experts from the organization and Cuban institutions analyzed the scope of
the 2006 Report, which includes a special supplement called Youth in
Movement, with first-person stories by young immigrants, especially
women, the daily states.

With the subtitle "Exodus of professionals," the document analyzes the
massive movements of medical staff who move from the poorest countries to
the wealthiest ones.

During the presentation in Havana of "The 2006 State of World Population,"
local experts said that although Cuba is not exempt from world immigration
trends, the issue is a victim of the US government's manipulation and
politicization.

The UNPF report appears a week after of the UN General Assembly's top level
dialogue on international immigration and development.
