China Minister of Cinema, Radio and Television in Cuba

Havana, Sept 1 (ACN) Member of Cuba's Communist Party Political Bureau,
Esteban Lazo, met Thursday with the Chinese Minister of Radio, Film and
Television and a delegation accompanying him at the head office of the
Central Committee in Havana.

The two officials discussed topics related to audiovisual matters and
expressed their satisfaction with the exchange. They had previously met
during a visit made by Lazo and the president of the Cuban Institute of
Radio and Television, Ernesto Lopez, to China in July, said the Granma
newspaper.

Cooperation between the two nations in this area is expected to produce
several bilateral agreements. The action has already been implemented
with the broadcasting of Chinese Television in Cuba and the Cubavision
Internacional channel in China. In both cases, transmissions are aimed
at tourist resorts.

Wang Taihua arrived in Cuba via Camaguey on August 29 and attended the
inauguration of a TV broadcasting center at a beach resort in Cayo
Coco, on the Cuban northern coast, the following day. The tourist
resort now offers three channels broadcasting Chinese Television in
Chinese, English and French.

Lazo referred to his recent trip to China and said he was pleased "as
plans that had been discussed a month and a half ago [in China] were
starting to take shape."

Minister Wang Taihua said that these exchanges are also aimed
at "learning what more we can do [and] as a demonstration of the
friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that exist between our peoples
and Parties." The talks in Havana were also attended by Rolando Alfonso
Borges, head of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party of
Cuba.
