China Supports Increased Satellite TV in Cuba

Havana, Sept 1 (ACN) Cuba and China took an important step in the
strengthening of their bilateral relations with the inauguration of
twelve new satellite receiving stations in central and eastern Cuba and
in Cayo Largo del Sur, that receive signals from three TV channels of
the Asian nation.

The satellite equipment and antennas picks up channels 4, 9 and
Spanish-French. There are 24 places that have these facilities
installed in 12 Cuban provinces, after the latest three were
inaugurated at the Jardines del Rey tourist resort, one of the four
largest in the country.

Ernesto Lopez, President of the Cuban Radio and Television Institute,
announced that the new channels can be seen in all more than 39,600
hotel rooms that provide services to the tourist trade, as well as in
diplomatic missions and educational and scientific institutions.

Attending the opening ceremony were Rolando Alfonso Borges, head of the
Ideological Department of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee,
Edildo Companioni Moreno the First Secretary of the Communist Party in
Ciego de Avila, and Wang Taihua Minister of the Bureau of the Chinese
State Administration of Cinema, Radio and Television.

The Chinese official said that his country hopes to improve the quality
of this service that will be made available to other regions of Cuba at
a later date.
