Cuba to Host International Dog Show

[For years, Cuba has held a national dog show. The 2009 show will
be the first time the island has hosted an international dog show.
Havana is a city of dog-lovers, so this will probably be a popular

Cuba to Host International Dog Show

Havana, Aug 24 (ACN) For the first time, Cuba will host a show of the
International Dog Federation, said Miguel Martinez, the
organization?s director for the Americas and the Caribbean.

In a message to his Cuba colleagues, Martinez said he is confident of
the island?s capabilities to organize the international pedigreed
canine competition, which will take place in Havana in April 2009.
He noted the show will attract dog breeders not only from the
Americas, but also from Europe and other parts of the world.

Dog owners highly value the certificates granted by such
international beauty championships, since it is a recognition
validated by the International Federation, Martinez explains in his
message to the Cuban Dog Federation. The first dog show in Latin
America and the Caribbean was held in Ecuador in August 2000. That
experienced follow other shows in Chile, November 2003; Costa Rica,
in June 2004; Argentina, in July 2005, and Colombia in March 2006.

The Cuban Dog Federation extended invitations to graphic designers
and visual artists in the country as well as to people in general to
take part in a contest to create a logo for the event, which will
have the participation of hundreds of dogs, including the Havana
Bichon breed.

The Bichon is the only Cuban-bred dog; it results from the crossing
of the poodle with another breed known as Havana's Blanquito.

The jury's decision on the logo designer will be announced in the
second half of 2007.
