Saul Landau on His 47 Years Defending Cuba's Sovereignty

Havana, August 23 (RHC)-US writer and professor at Washington's American
University, Saul Landau, said on Wednesday in Havana, that he has spent the
last 47 years defending Cuba's sovereignty in the face of attempts by
successive US administrations to destroy the Revolution.

Landau recently joined the over 13,000 renowned world figures, among them
nine Nobel Prize Laureates, who signed a document demanding that Washington
respect Cuba's soveriegnty.

He has written 13 books and numerous newspaper and magazine articles, and
has made more than 40 films and television programs. His latest book, "A
Bushie and Botox World" wlll be published in September by Counterpunch
Press.

Saul Laundau was recently interviewed by Prensa Latina News Agency in
Havana. He reiterated that Cuba must be respected and that he signed the
document because "Cuba as a sovereign state that has the right to its
independence".

"For the last 47 years, since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, I have
fought for the sovereignty of the island while my government has attempted
to destroy Cuba because Washington wants a so-called obedient and
non-independent Latin America", said the distinguished US writer.

Referring to the US government's so-called democratic transition in Cuba,
which includes a secret section, Saul Landau said that "this Plan is like
the Platt Amendment imposed by the US in 1902".

He added that "Bush's Commission affirms that the United States has a duty
to reassert its control over Cuba-as if somehow the Cubans had held a secret
election to decide this path. In fact, Cubans know the United States
government only as a threat to Cuba and a source of their hardship over
decades. From the outset of Cuba's revolution in 1959, the United States has
behaved badly toward Cuba's revolution".
