"Caboclinho" by Dilermando Reis

This week I'm studying "Caboclinho" by Dilermando Reis. I've read that he
was probably the most famous Brazilian guitarist, but I never heard of him
until last week. I'm sweating bullets over this piece. It's hard to read
and even harder to play. Here's a nice version I found on YouTube:

There was an informative article on Reis several years ago in Soundboard:

Some of his work are very lyrical. The following played by David Russell is
heart-wrenching:

The title means "If she asks"

It's a simple piece and not very hard to play. Put this in the bang
for buck category for gig players. Do you play it?

I like this version, which seems more raw and direct. Steel strings too!
As it goes, hardly anybody plays like this these days. Some people will
be glad - not me though. I like that old pre-sixties style.

I'm not so sure that the caption "1903 - 1958" is correct though.

Yeah, it's one of my favs. I regularly played this after some practice
sessions. It's good to lay down on the couch with my feet on the
coffee table squeezing out every last drops of juice from this piece.

Can't beat the man himself! It seemed like he talked to you through
his guitar "If she asks, tell her I'm doing just fine, sniff, sniff!"

Those old guys just went for it and put everything out there and exposed
themselves. These days, most players like to hide behind their
technique. I guess they lack confidence in themselves.

I play a few Reis pieces, they are great, lay so well on the instrument, and yes, very strong emotional content.
