Featuring a player tomorrow night

We have a player leaving our group tomorrow night. It's sad, but he
is pursuing job opportunities in New Mexico, and we all wish him
well. Sorry to lose him, as he is a good friend and has played with
us since we all started playing again in 2000.

Any suggestions for a good farewell game? Should I give him the
chance to heroically sacrifice his PC so that the rest of the party
may live? Should his PC just fade into the background? Continue to
run his elf as an NPC?

I've decided to throw a dragon at them as well, since they have not
seen one in a couple years (we only play once a month). Any special
dragon tricks or tactics that others have used? I haven't run one in
a while...

I would suggest asking the player how he wants his PC to go out.
