quick crossrealm question...

IYM

I think I know the answer is "no" but am going to check with you guys
anyway... We just brought in a french intern to my department at work
who will be in the US for his 6 month internship. He saw me checking my
auctions on my tablet and low and behold he also plays. Is it possible
to do crossrealm invites / parties with those who play on EU servers, in
this case French? I'm thinking "No", as while most aspects of the
game are the same, I think the class names are even different, but not
sure if that is the language barrier and his "nut-so-great" English (as
he says it). He was trying to tell me his main was a thief/robber
class?...I think that's a Rogue? Anyway - figured I'd throw it out
there... Told him he should just create a new toon on the US server,
but he doesn't want to level again and then get all geared up, and then
can't move it to his french realm when he goes back home....

Damn French - make things so complicated! lol :)

https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/character-trans...
"Characters can only be transferred between realms and accounts in the same
region."

Plus they would lose achievements and whatnot.

They should be able to still play on their realm, just pvp, vehicles etc may
suck compared to their usual experience with a couple of hundred ms ping and
could be worse if their US provider doesn't prioritise or tunnel.
If they voip they may notice lag.
Depending on the precision demands of their normal play this may be a game
killer or not.

EU may lockout for a while if they seem to change source address a lot,
which some providers do say if they opt for a short term wirless provider.
Really the only way to tell is to suck it and see.
Some hotspots pass games traffic, some don't, easy enough to try if they
have a playable laptop

If not, looks like they need to download the eu client on it rather than a
us folder copy

Funny thing about the French and US, they insist they are different but they
are tweedledum and tweedle dee, closer to twins than most other countries.
given that the French pretty much allowed the USA to exist by constantly
diverting British resources until both were removed nearly simultaneously as
a threat the sometimes extreme antipathy seems bizarre
[ war of 1812, 1814,waterloo 1815, then the british burned washington and
everybody decided it was best to play nice
behaved themselves since then :-) ]
By that time the British had decided a trade empire without major wars was
better for business so didn't push it, has worked pretty well for 200 years.

As already said, it won't work cross-region, but thought I'd mention
language doesn't matter, only location :-) I'm on an English EU realm,
can't group with you Americans crossrealm, even though we (almost ;-))
share a language (as we're in totally different data systems) but can
group with anyone from any other European language realm. I've even
seen Russian realm players in worldboss groups on my realm (and those
Russian characters cause havoc with player tooltips lol, had to bug
report that as the tooltip was 3* the height of any other player's
tooltip) - massive language differences (and we can't even log into
the same realms, at least, it won't let me play on a Russian realm,
even though every other language is fine), but can still cross-realm
group.

Yes, "Rogue" and "Thief" are pretty much interchangeable in RPGs. Like
Wizard and Mage and Magic-user or Priest and Cleric or Paladin and
Sanctimonious big-headed twat.

;)

But I cannot answer your question.
