Best LFR ever....

I just had one of my better LFR experiences; and it wasn't because it was easy and smooth.

ToT part 3. We get in, and one of the players announces that this was the tank's first time there; and asked for toleration of a wipe or two. In fact, it seemed that it was the first time for a bunch of folk. This is the boss with the big eyeball.

This time a lot of *good* advice was offered to first timers; how to handle beams, 'lingering gaze', and the Disintegration Ray phase, and 'don't stand on the grid when the boss is being pulled'. Still, we wiped the first time around.

Second time, people picked up on the trick of carrying the beams around the boss in *tight* circles; which makes the fog beasts turn up quickly. The sooner they can be killed, the sooner we can get back to dpsing the boss.

This time, enough survived the first DR phase, and they dealt with the ray phases fast enough, that we got the boss down before the second DR phase. Very smooth work for an LFR with noobs.

At that point, both tanks and three DPS left. Not sure why - perhaps they were a guild group doing training. We had no tanks, and were soon down 4 dps as well.

Anyway, I lead people through the gauntlet and into the next bosses room (the one with the slimes). We clear the trash; still no tanks. We post *detailed* descriptions of the strategy for the noobs. After sitting there glumly for a couple minutes with no tanks, a DK says he'd be willing to try using his tank offspec (ilvl 505). Now, this is normally a two-tank fight. The healers (including me) promise to do our best to keep him up.

We pull, and to our surprise, one-shot the boss. There were a couple dicey moments, but generally our sole amateur tank kept aggro, and his health was kept up pretty well. Much praise was given to the healers.

We clear the trash to the third boss (the mecha room) without too much difficulty, while still down two tanks. Again, much detailed strategy advice given. Just as we're about to make a (probably doomed) pull, two tanks pop in.. The rest of the encounter was no big problem.

What was special? People were willing to give good, repeated advice to the noobs. The noobs listened, and asked questions (includeing 'Please tell me what 'kiting' is'(!)) We were all willing to take a shot at the second boss understrength, and without proper tanks. But because new dps paid attention to instructions, one stepped forward to try tanking, and the healers all brought their 'A' game, we pulled it off.

I've never seen an LFR with morale so high. It was fun.

That sounds like an awesome group - I love it when people are friendly
and willing to work as a *team* for things :-)
