Dailies in a Hurricane! Woot!

IYM

10/31/2012 8:01:00 PM

The most important thing is I managed to get my dailies done both Monday
and Tuesday! lmao

Actually, all kidding aside, I luckily live in a small section of the
area that didn't lose power or internet during the storm and I count
myself lucky. The devastation that storm caused was unreal. If not for
the flooding, it would not have been a big deal, but our coastline was
wrecked. So I got my main's dailies done Monday early afternoon, and
then the lights started dimming or flickering, so I decided that
leveling my druid in a hurricane with power issues for a few hours was
not worth weeks of being without a PC should it get screwed up, so I
shut down. The storm had moved inland by early morning, so I booted up
while everyone was still sleeping yesterday and did my dailies again and
played a bit until the sun broke through and it was time for outside
clean up. I was lucky in no damage, so I counted blessings, contacted
friends and family and watched some movies with the kids...

Hope everyone else who lives in the area who posts here made it through
OK....Not sure - I may be the only one...lol :)

Glad you got through it alright, was wondering if anyone here was in
the affected area! The tv pictures look pretty bad from here, makes me
feel grateful to be in a small country that rarely gets storms that
bad.

Although maybe you can answer something I've always been curious
about: why are so many American houses built of wood? Maybe brick
wouldnt help much with really bad storms but it's got to be more
fireproof at least; the pictures of that bit of NYC totally burned out
are an eye-opener, can't see that happening here where most buildings
are brick or stone, worst fires you tend to see are like 3-4 houses
near (more like, physically joining) each other, not 100+, that's
seriously scary stuff.

Lol at getting your dailies done anyway though :-) You've done more
than me recently then, nothing like having a streaming cold to make me
decide that actually, I really can't be bothered; I'll get back to
them later in the week :-P

Well - Just like anywhere, your shelter (homes) are constructed using
the most plentiful material around. Why do some old homes in England
have thatched roofs? To us here, that seems crazy. It's all relative
and based on what is plentiful in the area.....Here, wood is plentiful.
In addition, it allows itself to be modified easily. Renovations,
changes, etc are easier. Most of NYC is brick and stone, but outside
the city proper (suburbs) most are wood frame and either brick around or
finished with other material. In getting another reason I found this as
well [Second, there are plenty of houses in the US that are constructed
of brick or stone. It's all a matter of affordability and personal
choice as well as what part of the country you live in and when your
house was built. In the US, brick is more expensive but not so much that
only the rich can afford it. However, if given a choice, most in the US
would rather own a home even if they are not willing to pay a 15-20%
premium for brick.]

Also - the homes you saw in the section of NYC that were on fire are
older and not up to the current codes that may have stopped fires like
that from spreading. My home is wood frame, but built in the last 10
years. It has new code including fire stops in the walls and the such.
However you would never normally have seen such and area devastated by
fire like that. The problem with that was that electrical transformers
exploding started the fires in multiple locations and the fire crews had
no way to get in to stop it due to deep water, so the fire just ran it's
course.

I live far out east of NYC on Long Island, near the end of it, but not
along the shoreline. Our houses are wood frame mostly. But let me
tell you something....It doesn't matter what your house was made of if
it was down near the shore here. The waves will knock down a stone
house just as well. Flood waters will not magically go around the brick
house and leave it alone. The 0.5 to 1 meter diameter oak trees here
will smash through a brick building as well as wood. The homes here
were NOT destroyed by the wind. The wind gusts were only around
80-90mph. It was the water and falling trees that caused the
devastation. So if every home were made of brick, much of the same
damage would have occurred.

Makes sense I guess, just seems very weird to me to often see on tv
programmes or whatever, all these streets of wooden houses, looks a
huge fire risk to me! Doesn't seem very appealing to own something
that looks like it'd be burned to the ground in the event of fire, but
maybe it's not so bad when you're used to it!

Fair enough I guess, although I'd have thought brick or stone would at
least be stronger against flood waters than wood which would surely
just splinter when pressure's put on it in the wrong direction. I'm no
expert on buildings though so that's a totally uninformed impression
:-P

You're doing better than me on those! I'm exalted with Klaxxi at least
but only in honoured with Shado-Pan and August Celestials, Golden
Lotus is about 3-4 days off exalted at least. Missed a lot of dailies
this past week due to being too tired/ill to be bothered, starting to
feel better now though so I've been busy today, currently sitting in
Kun'Lai wondering if anyone's ever going to start a group for Sha of
Anger... reset was only yesterday, I thought there'd be a bit more
demand than this lol.

I missed a few days due to power lines being knocked down from the utility poles.

But before I got booted off it was interesting how Valley of Four Winds had some hellacious dark skies and rain pouring down.

I wondered if Blizz intentionally did this on the Eastern server. If so I like that idea just sorry I missed it after a brief view of it. And I wondered if all of Panderia was udner a hurricane.

OH! OH! OH!

Update:

Well - my parents still have no power, we now have gas rationing for odd
and even days, and we just elected the same morons that will continue or
make it worse for all....Woot!!! Bring on the crash....I've now
officially given up on the US... If this is the direction apparently the
51% wish to take my country, then stop the bus and let me off. I knew
there were stupid and grubby people here, I just hadn't realized they
make up the majority...
I know this is OT, but perfect example, and this is not an isolated
incident: Got a guy here who lives near the shore. His house did not
get damaged. He is financially well off...The US government, decided
that the zone he lived in was a flood zone, whether their house was
damaged or not...whether they are in need or not...and walked around
handing everyone $3200 taxpayers $$ to "help them get by" yesterday.
He's came in today and is bragging....He's going out tomorrow for a new
60" flat screen. I said something to him about why would he take it if
he didn't need it? Why not leave some more for others? He looked at me
like I had two heads and told me if someone was coming around your area
handing it out, wouldn't I take it? Had to look deep inside for the
answer....real deep as I know it really is a simple question, but will
define who I am....When I realized I would not, if I didn't need it, a
new dawning came over me. My wife will lose her medical job due to
Obamacare within the next year or two... Her employer let her know
yesterday. The US gov't has decided that they will pay her company a
'fair' rate of $15 for an MRI for anyone on the Gov't medical plan that
will be required. $15 will not pay for the staff... So instead of being
able to get you in and out with results withing hours, she said they
estimate a few weeks....Hope everyone enjoys lines for
everything.....Started looking at New Zealand and a few other
options...I meet the qualifications to emigrate and I have an
Engineering degree. Only problem is it's Mechanical, not the higher
demand civil or electrical, but still a needed skill. Ah well - keeping
my options open. Got to think about my kids and thier future :)

Anyway, I've vented long enough - Apologies all around. I'll not reply
to rebuttal, as it won't change my mind or someone arguing with
me....I've seen enough. This is not the place.... :)

Anyway - what *IS* the place is that I go hide in Azeroth to escape
reality for a few hours.....more importantly for the time being, my
guild got a group of 40 (lol) together and knocked out the Sha of Anger
last night, which was pretty cool. I haven't been part of a raid that
big since, well....for so long I can't remember that I actually got some
goose bumps. Seeing 9 healers, 4 tanks and the such was frickin'
awesome!!! So when you down and loot him, you get a 'claw' that you can
go turn in with the shado-pan that will give you 476 booties....and 600
rep! that brought me to 20,942 revered....AHHHH!!!! SO CLOSE!!!! lol -
will hit exalted today with a sneeze. Am at about 14K with the August,
so that is a grind.

Hope everyone is doing well and catch you soon! :)

Interesting perspectives, to us on the outside looking in (not just me
but many many people I know online from all walks of life and several
different countries), it appears the "stupid" ones are those who would
actually vote for a bunch of seemingly bigoted warmongers! The
Republicans do themselves no favours whatsoever in international eyes,
they come across as so far behind where most civilised countries are
in attitude terms that I can never understand why anybody would
actually support them, particularly after all Bush did (and I'm aware
my own country's then prime minister was little better than Bush;
that's why we now have a government most people hate - anything was
better than Blair and his cronies again...)

Obviously this comes from a perspective of only what we see from the
outside, which is fairly limited compared with what you guys who live
there see (although one good friend now lives in the US, so must have
at least some insight into things), but I think there was a sigh of
relief across much of the world when Obama won, simply because we all
feel safer!

Snipping your big rant, I will say one more thing: the financial
situation is not Obama's fault. He inherited it, and it's also an
international deal anyway: my country is also affected, as is much of
Europe. It's not the fault of my country's present government either
(even if I strongly dislike how they're handling it), and it tends to
bug me when people blame those who are trying to fix things that
weren't actually caused by them. If you're not blaming him for that,
then apologies, it's just something I've seen so often that I tend to
assume it's what people mean when complaining about the current
situation!

Not wanting to get into a big political debate btw, just a little
surprised by your strong views when it comes across so differently to
us on the outside, you're the first person I've come across who
actually admits to supporting the Republicans :-)

I'm amazed you hadn't done Sha of Anger yet - there's many pugs for
him every week since MoP was released! You've missed out, he's also a
good source of loot when you're just gearing up, couple of epics from
him tipped me over the 460 I needed for LFR weeks back :-)

Nice work on the rep, I'm 4k off revered with Shado-Pan, not really
finding them very fun so haven't done them much. 19k off exalted with
August Celestials, and now exalted with everybody else, so getting
there :-)

....Because people automatically form opinions about people based on
*what* they are, not who they are, just as you seemingly did. You and I
have communicated for a long time, and now your "surprised" because I'm
a conservative (not republican btw) with Libertarian leaning values.
Now I'm a warmonger through association? Forget the years of WoW talk -
you think lesser of me now? lol Your not going to go "AHA! That's

please...lol....I'm just a guy with strong family values who was born a

Damn it!! I said I wasn't going to have any rubuttal!!!!
lmao....Resisting so much....Don't reply to the above!! So much to say,
but I won't as I said I wouldn't.....except it's easy to stand outside
and make judgments. I wouldn't feel any safer, btw if I were you.
Just wait and watch...

lol - Yea well, I didn't run it as was waiting for friends and to be
honest was doing the damn dailies that occupied my time! BUt
interestingly, I have done the first 3 LFR's and hadn't done the Sha
yet. I tried twice to get in on it a few times, but they filled up
quickly or I was involved with something at the time. It wasn't really
a priority I guess....It was one of those "ill get around to it"
things...lol. The good thing I'm glad about waiting is that our guild
got the achieve for it since we finally all ran it at the same time...

....but man, my frame rates dropped! LOL :) I came in 6th dps - not
so bad....Considering I had to stop fighting for over 30 seconds because
I was trying to figure out why I couldn't move. I was in a black cloud
effect, making all my raid appear to be the bad guys (you know,
republicans to you - lol - sorry couldn't resist) and was trying to
move, but was stuck. We were fighting him in that town area he spawns
in. After the ground effects cleared I found I had gotten stuck almost
impaled in between two fences....Ahhhhh....Here I though I was getting
stunned. lmao

I don't mind them except I *still* dislike the one set with the 4
elites...so many mobs it's hard as a clothie, even with the bag of
tricks they give you....

19k off exalted with

exalted now with all except August after tonight....well, as far as
factions.

Now Nat Pagle and the individual "Masters of the "_____" - that's
different. Got 2 of those,
but taking a while as I started them late.

I am however 3 bars from 90 on my resto druid! :)

Given I have no idea what conservative or libertarian values actually
are, then nope, just surprised at the difference in how things come
across to different people, that we have have such opposite viewpoints
when you come across as mostly comeone I agree with.

Lol did I say ANY of that? Jeez, it's *you* making assumptions if you
think I'm judging you based on your political viewpoints. I'm not,
since I know fine I don't know the full details. I only commented
because I find it amusing how the republicans must come across pretty
differently to you guys than how they do to us outside the US, if you
find them a reasonable option: to us outsiders it comes across as
though there is only one option anybody sane can take - but obviously
that's not how it comes across to you, if you disagree.

I in no way made any judgements on you based on that. If that's how I
came across then I apologise, but I was seriously trying not to come
across as anything other than interested in the differing viewpoints
here.

Yeah he mind controls you for 30 sec, think it can be broken if people
dps you down to 50% but nobody ever bothers, I got MC'd twice last
time, barely did anything useful that raid lol. Pretty fun fight and
usually easy to get a pug for, just try on the first day or two of a
weekly reset :-)

Yeah agreed, at least now they made the elites share a tag, but still
a pain as a clothie. I made the mistake of taking the hawkmaster NPC
with me for that batch yesterday, omg he's useless, might as well have
soloed it and gone for the loner achievement rather than taken him...
at least now I know that even as a healer I can solo those elites plus
two adds well enough now, I guess.

Grats! :-)

Only missing two of those Tillers NPCs now and both are fairly close,
I found carrying on the dialies after exalted helped there as you get
a fair chunk of NPC rep from them. Nowhere near Nat Pagle, I kinda got
bored fishing after I got Anglers exalted but guess I'll get back to
it soon, not got many dailies to do nowadays!

>I am however 3 bars from 90 on my resto druid! :)

Grats! I haven't really touched my alts, my feral druid is just 86,
that's it lol, other than my monk being 32. So much to do on my main,
plus a nasty cold knocked me out for the best part of 2 weeks so I
didn't even play my main much in that time, maybe an alt will get
levelling soon now I'm recovered.

lol - I'm not. You need to re-read what & how I wrote that. :) Maybe
you missed the point...I said "your not going to..." I other words, I
was saying that I didn't believe that all of a sudden you'd change your
opinions about people because of their viewpoints. There are so many
who do. I try to keep an open mind to others. Ones that simply have
other viewpoints than mine and vote differently is cool and have no
problems. Others are so ugly and nasty in their views, especially from
the so called open minded left, that God forbid you don't think the same
way, you are vilified and are scum.

Damn it! did it again....<zipping lip> lmao....

Cool! Always open minds are great! :)

Yea I did get MC'd, but it was also the fence impalement.....lmao

ahhh - Did not notice the share change - will def. keep an eye open for
one I can jump in on...lol I usually search the road an pull one back
to the grass or open area. I also will skip the elites who fear
you...Those are nasty as tight as you are jammed in trying not to agro
the entire Island, I end up MC'd right into a huge group....

Most of the 'helpers' are not much on that series....I wish the tank guy
was available for that. The only one I find helpful at all as a mage is
when I can take Snow Blossom (the mage) for the island / quest line you
collect the eggs and such....You want to hear something embarrassing? I
just realized last night (now that I'm just about done) that there was a
portal to that North Island....Been flying back and forth the entire
time....lol

A lot of that was through dungeons - Something I skipped until 90 while
leveling my main, as I wanted to do the quest line....
It stinks as a healer sometimes though, as I'm half afraid to go Boomkin
while in the que to level, as the que times have been whacky so I end up
standing around a lot or doing AH stuff. Sometimes I'll que and it say
14 min (as heals)...3 min later I'm in....other times it says 5 min, and
I'm still in que 18 min later....Never sure I can change. If I'm boomer
and in the middle of a fight when the dungeon calls, I'm afraid to click
yes and find myself in the middle of a pull the last healer bailed on,
while I've got reindeer antlers on my head..... :)

You forgot uneducated and racists (demographics that Romney won huge
margins from).

The GOP is shocked to find that the country is no longer lily-white and
willing to vote in favor of rich white guys and against their own
interests.

Obamacare has already saved thousands of lives.

The Republican party as it has existed over the last 30 years is dead,
they just don't know it yet. Some of the smarter ones have figured it
out.

Not only is it not his fault, the continuing problems in the US are all
completely the fault of the GOP controlled House which has spent two
years refusing to pass *anything* that might help the country because
they want, in their own words, "Obama to fail."
