Torik-Ethis

steve.kaye

Whilst questing in Krasarang Wilds last night I found the rare
Torik-Ethis with my Paladin. This is my first rare so I'm eager to
have a go. I finished the mobs that I were killing and switched to
protection spec thinking that it would be easier to complete the task
if I switch to un-killable mode.

Nobody else is around so I pull him. Shortly into the fight he casts
Blade Flurry. This seems to hit about 6 or 7 times for about 30% of
my health bar each time. Need to get out of the way of that next
time.

I do the corpse run, res and heal and pull him again. He casts Blade
Flurry and I get out of the way quickly and carry on. He casts
Windsong and I get out of the way..... nothing seems to happen so I
attack again. He casts Tornado and I get out of the way. A baby
tornado appears where I was standing and then wanders around on its
own business. I attack again. He casts Blade Flurry so I back
off...... right into a huge tornado that had been approaching from
behind. That kills me quickly!

I do the corpse run etc and surprisingly, there is still nobody around
so I pull him again. This time I pull two normal mobs into the fight
but it was still easy and I killed him. Just before he died an
Alliance DK turned up but he left me alone and clapped when I killed
him.

He dropped an ilevel 420 tanking helmet. I wish I'd not bothered to
switch specs now because that helmet had dodge and parry which I don't
want. Maybe if I'd killed him as Retribution he'd have dropped the
helmet with crit and mastery instead.

As it turned out, I didn't need to be in protection spec as he didn't
do a lot of damage apart from the two abilities that killed me anyway
so it would probably have been easier as retribution.

Nice one - I'm amazed you got three shots, whenever I've found a rare,
dying once = end of my chances. Makes the learning curve pretty steep!

Afraid that wouldn't have made a difference, first rare I killed
dropped a useful item so I wondered if it was spec-related... but most
other rares haven't even dropped my armour type! Best was the one I
grouped with two mages to kill (on my priest) and it dropped leather
lol. It's just luck I think.

Yeah it's those abilities that are the tough part, most the rares are
like that, couple of nasty abilities and everything else is fine.

I agree, it seems it is totally random what they drop. I've had some of them
drop nothing but coin, others dropped items (mostly blue). I've seen all
armour types dropped and a wild mix of stats. Luckily, the one time a rare
dropped something epic, it was a crossbow which was an excellent upgrade for
my hunter. The rest of the drops were just "vendor-rares" (I find it hard to
call a blue iLvl440 item "trash" :-)

Cheers

That's why I thought that they were spec related. You got a relevant
drop and I got one that was relevant to my spec so I thought that it
was more than the coincidence that it turned out to be.

Yeah, I was surprised that I got the first go as it was a while
between my spotting it and getting to it. I had to kill the mobs that
I was fighting, switch spec, buff and eat before getting to him.

Ah, I don't feel so bad now. :)

Yep. It's the burden that The Truly Enlightened must bear when dealing
with us unwashed types. Including unwashed Native Americans, apparently.

Which part of the concept are you struggling with? Please be specific.

But *you* can call some of them "ignorant" and "wrong" when they don't
agree with you, which means that *you* are deciding that something *is*
(or should be) offensive to all Indians. Because it's *totally*
different when *you* do it. Or something.

I know enough to recognize when some dudes are having a good time at a
football game while showing no signs of "internalized oppression." But
yeah, you keep reading opinions and theories instead of dealing with
objective reality. Because that always works out so well.

Fortunately we have someone intelligent like you to decide for all of us
what is "ignorant" and "wrong" in subjective realms. Because that's all
kinds of awesome.

Can you quote where I said Indians who don't find redskins offensive are
"ignorant" and "wrong"?

No, you can't because I didn't say that.

Can you quote where I said redskins should be offensive to all Indians?

No, you can't because I didn't say that.

Do you think you can "win" a debate by putting words in my mouth?

No, you can't.
