Intellect doesnt give mana :O

Mamesick

I just noticed intellect doesnt give mana... I totally missed that.
Just now I logged in and I inspected a mage and saw he has 100k mana then I
saw I have 100k as well then I click on someone else and same 100k... then I
removed my gloves and I still had 100k mana...

I read the patch notes as usual and I never noticed that mana wasnt tied to
intellect anymore.

Did they change it with 5.0.4?

That's a bit odd. Wowpedia's page on Mana
(http://www.wowpedi...) says that it was changed in patch 5.0.4
but if you follow the link to the patch notes that they have there's
no reference to Mana or Intellect. Also, the patch notes on the
Battle.net site don't mention it either.

It was indeed changed with 5.0.4, surprised the notes don't mention it
since I knew that months ago, was definitely mentioned a few times in
the buildup. Only way to increase mana now is with a few odd things;
the int+2% mana metagem does, for example (my priest has 102,000
mana), and I believe some of the really low lvl +mana enchants do as
well (sure I read somewhere those have become very popular with
battleground twinks as a result).

Also changed is intellect doesn't increase your regen any more, only
spirit does now.

So what is +Int still good for?

The previous situation put too much power in Int. Imagine if
Agility gave +Focus and +Focus Regen in addition to +Hit, +AP,
+Crit, and +Dodge. I imagine it made it harder to fiddle with
mage balance issues, in addition to seeming a bit unfair.

Spellpower (damage/healing) and critchance, basically. It's a
throughput stat, spirit is regen, instead of int being everything all
in one. Think they're maybe trying to make secondary stats more
attractive (or less *un*attractive!), as you also get doube the amount
of secondary stats on gems in MoP, so casters may now occasionally
consider something other than straight Intellect gems on everything
:-)

Mana at level 85 is 'normalized' at 100K.

Spell Power and Spell crit, iirc.

Ah, thanks. Is this in addition to +spell power/+healing on gear, or are
those two stats among those that got removed some time in the past 14
months?

Apart from checking their achievments, mounts and pets, I haven't logged in
on any of my characters except for the hunter, hence my cluelessness about
casters :-)

Those got removed longer ago than that :-P Think it was about the
start of Cataclysm that spellpower was converted to intellect. It's
been only weapons and the odd (usually old) trinket that have
spellpower for ages, and healing/damage got consolidated into
spellpower with WotLK.

Crit is still a separate stat (all crit, not spellcrit only, but Int
only contributes to spell crit, like Agility only gives physical
crit).

Hehe I'm with you there, I took my time and only set each character up
one at a time, still getting my head round stuff that's changed, and
can tell I'll have to adjust talents/glyphs as things go along.

Might be that Spell power on items is gone. I really haven't played my
mage at all. I tried to do TB dailies the other day and was getting
killed by Tank while doing less than 40% damage. Not sure why, I use to
be able to solo tank pretty easily.
