Healer gets DPS loot from LFR

John Gordon

I was healing an LFR last night on my Shaman and I won two trinkets: Seal
of the Seven Signs and Insignia of the Corrupted Mind.

These are very similar trinkets. Both have 406 intellect. The Seal has
a haste proc when you heal someone, and the Insignia has a haste proc when
you deal damage.

I understand why I got the Seal; it's a healing trinket and I was queued
as a healer. But why did I win the Insignia?

That's actually good news to me, there's some chance of getting
offspec loot then! Do you have a dps offspec? Perhaps if took that
into consideration. Else, it may not be totally accurately done, but
heh, I like the chance of getting dps gear as a healer if it's
intended.

This is one of those cases where I'm glad I didn't reply right away, as
I misread and thought he said LFR was dropping 406 gear now.... Would
have replied and had people scratching their heads wondering what the
hell I was talking about.. :) lol

LFR loot drops are items usable for your CLASS, not necessarily your
spec. You could just as easily have gotten agi gear.

LFR loot is (or was, pre-5.0.4) distributed by class and role. You're
right that it did not take spec into account, but it definitely went by
your role. In past LFRs, I'm certain I rolled on that very trinket as a
healer and did not get the +100 role bonus, which is why I was surprised
that I won it.

However, didn't they say that in Mists of Pandaria, LFR gear would be
awarded based on spec? And didn't the 5.0.4 patch effectively give us all
of the MoP mechanics? So LFR loot should now be awarded by spec, right?
