Anyone know the exact mechanics of the MoP release?

I'm seriously considering taking a day off work when MoP goes live;
the goal is to get on ASAP and try for a server first, then spend the
rest of the day leveling my main towards 90.

All I know is that it's supposed to go live "Sept. 25".

What does that mean, for an East Coast guy on a West Coast server?
12:01 AM EDT? 3:00 AM EDT?

Anyone know what the issues will be with getting on at that time? I
expect the login server to be just a bit busy :-)

Or course, I'm doing the digital download so I have the system ready
when the rope drops.

Well, as far as the time thing - When the rope drops on US servers it
drops at the same time. There's no advantage to East or West if past
releases are any indication. 12am Pacific, 3am Eastern...and of course
you have to take daylight savings into account if you are in one of
those freaky places like parts of Arizona that don't participate in it. :)

Yea, I'm sure it'll be a tad busy no matter what...heh. I didn't play
MoP beta so it'll be a surprise for me and hopefully they spread people
out a bit. I remember when cata came out trying to find and kill those
rock elementals when you first got into hyjal was stupid crazy. 40
people standing there trying to be the first to shoot a respawn. The
thing didn't stand a chance...lol

I also remember people "parking" their toon before logging off the night
before in front of the flight trainer in SW ready to train for flying in
the old world....

Going to be crazy no matter what...I toyed with the idea of calling in,
but haven't decided yet...What are you going to try to get a realm first on?

Herbalism. In the beta, whiptail continues to give rep up to max, so
instead of heading over to the new zone, I'll circle Uldum, gathering.
I'm not a druid, but with a max speed mount, and Crusader Aura, I'm
pretty fast. I should be able to train up in well under an hour.

I know someone one year took a day off from work and didn't get to play at all that day between all the delays

You might have to take off two days and maybe even the night between the two days.

Hmm, the night between the two days...

Now that might be a good title for a song indeed.

OH! OH! OH!

Well, right now I'm waiting out an 8.1 Gb download - and its raid
night. The raid just ain't gonna happen - everyone has to respec,
regem, reglyph, reload addons, and relearn to play their class.

Tuesday, 25 Sept? I might or might not get on. If I do, I think I have
a semi-decent shot at the realm-first. If not, big deal.

However, 3AM east coast, on a Tuesday morning, means the population I
have to compete with isn't that big. After an hour or so, only the
hardcore will be left anywhere in the country, since Tuesday is a
workday and a schoolday. During the day, there's only the unemployed,
and other people taking the day off.

No offence, but who thought it was a good idea to schedule a raid for
patch night? It's pretty well known that pre expansion patches are
always going to take the full day before most people actually have the
game in a playable condition, so it's far wiser to not plan anything
for those days :-)

Currently wondering what time EU servers will be up, can pretty much
guarantee it won't be the advertised time lol (can't remember what
that was, but it won't be it anyway :-P)

Tuesday and Friday are our regular scheduled raid nights. Only rarely
does this create a problem.
