A public confession of idiocy

I've been playing this game since Adam was a newbie, or that's what it
feels like on occasions. And in my innocence i.e. stupidity I have
frequently gone into the auction house and sold my gatherings for
whatever price they would fetch, assuming that the goods would reach
their market value due to the laws of supply and demand.

And then one day after selling twenty heavy leather hides for about 50
silver I browsed the Auction House and saw to my bemusement that some
similar goods were selling for 25 gold or more.
And I remembered the delight I felt when an alt using Inscription sold a
Prime Glyph and made 1 gold 25 silver for it. I noticed the other day
that that self same Prime Glyph is making 45 gold as of two days ago.

The penny had dropped, and I've installed Auctioneer and now sell using
its recommendations.

But oh what a total wally I feel. Running around Azeroth with my thumb
in my bum and my brain in neutral. I reckon the buyers at the AH must
have had their copies of Auctioneer set up to advice them the moment I
put up goods for auction.

No wonder I could never afford a decent flying mount or decent weapons.

I shall now take a lesson from the British Banking Association and say
screw the customer, just give me the money, and lots of it.

Peter

It's good to make a ton of gold on the AH. But as long as you
were happy before, there's no reason to feel like an idiot. If
you'd really wanted gold, you could have found out how to get it
sooner.

You have to fool yourself that your money-grubbing activities are
very, very good for your customers. Without cognitive dissonance
capitalism couldn't function smoothly. ;)

Aye, Auctioneer is an *invaluable* tool, but if for any reason you
can't/don't want to use it, and know anyone who does, there's a way to
tap into their database, that a guildie taught me. Whisper a link to
them, with a "?" (without the quotation marks around it) in front of
it, and you get all their information on it.

This has helped not only a whole bunch of my friends, but me, too,
since I don't have to answer *nearly* as many questions about what
market price I have for items ;-)

/sympathy!

Maybe you're the guy I find selling 325 rings for buy out prices of 8g? I
cringe when I see those, but I flip them and do well.

I always check prices on theunderminejournal.com , or just shift clicking
the item into the AH search, removing the random enchant (corroded faceguard
of the <delete whatever>) and see what the search turns up. I cringed the
other day when someone listed THREE raz hatchlings for 1k each.. but I
snapped them up.

To help you kick off your future goldmine, there are some things like the
buccaneers eyepatch that regularly sell for over 300g on my server and you
may find the same applies for yours. Many attractive weapons and armor
...control click to see it on you.. greens can sell for wildly high amounts,
and skankwear seems to do appallingly well !

BoE rare drop pets can earn you stupid high amounts and things that are no
longer in the game like ruby shades and dirge's kicking chimeraic chops
(which turn up sometimes at surprisingly low prices) can very easily put a
huge grin on your face when you see what they can earn you

good luck and welcome to the AH game =D

Like the Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw) that I just managed to broker a
deal to get for a guildie for 10K G? He'd been trying to get it for
years, but wouldn't spend more, it was the last AH available pet he
was missing, so I started sending out counter-offers through the mail.
Actually only took 3 attempts, the first to the person who kept
snapping them up to resell whenever they got down to near my guildie's
limit went unanswered, the second I got a reply to saying he expected
pet prices for the rares to go even higher in the expansion (and I
didn't see him list it again), the third paid off. To say we were both
overly pleased would be a major understatement ;-)

grats :)

I had a guildie send me a pet I was missing, she runs as healer and got
three of them in bags ! ..and I returned the favour, surprising her with
one of the hatchlings I picked up for 1k each. It is a nice thing when
guildies help each other :)

It is ;-) He'd 'given up' a couple times, but I'm a stubborn cuss ...
