What are you doing in Mists of Pandaria?

petertrei

Since I got the MoP beta, I've been working on little else. My main is
a Holy Pally healer in an end-content raiding guild, one of the top
ones on my server (which isn't saying much :-). We are hoping to get
some server firsts when MoP drops for real.

As a result, I've been concentrating on the new lvl 85+ content more
than anything else - I copied my Holy/Ret Pally over, and dinged 88
last night. I joined a beta guild to get the 10% xp boost, then
concentrated on questing in Ret spec.

I'm *not* the most single minded player, I have job/commute/house/kids/
wife etc. In 3 weeks I've just dinged 88. During 85 my pre-MoP gear
was mostly good enough, but by the end of 87 pretty much everything
from WotLK has been replaced.

My current plan is to try to solo Ret quest up to the current ceiling,
then try to backfill the healing spec gear by going back and
completing skipped quest lines from earlier, learning healing in
instances and raids, pugged if I can't get a guild group

The idea is to get the knowledge and experience to quickly powerlevel
to 90 when MoP drops for real. If I can, I might even take a day or
two off work.

At the moment, most quest rewards offer gear only for your current
role. I suspect that if I am in Holy spec at turn-in time, I'll get
healing gear. Anyone know for sure?

What other things are people doing in MoP?

Easy answer for me-nothing, heh. I just don't wanna do everything on a
toon then have to redo it on the same toon when MoP goes live.

I guess my question wasn't directed at you.

FWIW, I've found that the item you are offered is appropriate for the
spec you are in when you click on the '?' for quest turn-in. This is
useful - if you already have an item for the current spec as good or
better than the one you are offered, you can close the window, change
spec, and ask again. I'm building up my healing gear set this way,
while leveling in ret.

I've entered the new zone that came in with the patch this Tuesday; I
like it.

Between guild bonus, rested bonus, and the xp offered for mobs and
quests, I'm getting over 600k xp for some completed lvl 89 quests.
I'll hit 89 soon. I don't know if lvl 90 is available yet (I don't
think it is).

Good luck to you there! :-)

You've got further than me, I'm still lvl 86 hehe, keep getting
distracted and frankly, I don't want to spoil *everything* for myself
so I'm enjoying the journey, but slowly, just doing a few quests per
day. Of course I'd have got further if 50% of the times I do log in,
it wasn't lagged to hell, to the point where I log off having decided
trying to kill stuff is too frustrating. Between that and the odd
quest where mob respawn rates are tuned WAY too low, I've got stuck a
few times so far.

Gearwise, I've replaced everything except the 397 BoE boots already,
but this was a low-geared alt; 359 ilvl on live and the boots were the
only thing I had above 378, so not too surprising. Worst thing
statswise is there's very little hit and expertise on the quest
rewards, and as someone who's a bit completist about things, I hate
missing all the time so keep having to port to SW and reforge, sigh.
Big upgrades for me overall, I suspect my main would've replaced
nothing so far though, since everything I have is 378+ and
enchanted/gemmed/reforged optimally, so I'd be less likely to replace
with a 384 green!

As I understand it, it is indeed based off your spec at time of
turnin, so switching spec to the one you want an item for should work.
Apparently in the highest lvl questing zones, you'll get a choice of
all items suitable for your class, so can then pick which spec you'd
like to use without having to switch first, to help people gearing up
two specs for lvl 90 playing.

>What other things are people doing in MoP?

I'm just taking it easy right now, got my rogue out there, done all of
Jade Forest and I'm wandering around Valley of the Four Winds, done a
bunch of quests and explored much of the rest of the zone, loving the
look of it so far! Haven't even been to the other open zones, but I'll
look at them later on, maybe won't do all though, or at least I'll try
to leave plenty of nooks and crannies left unexplored, since what I've
seen so far is blowing me away with the sheer details and little
touches in everything; I want to explore it all, but don't want to do
that too soon, would rather leave plenty till it's live.

I'm not looking to powerlevel too fast when MoP goes live, although I
*would* like to get a little ahead of the crowd and avoid the worst
overcrowding experiences. On live, I'll be focussing on my usual
playstyle of soloing, factions, quests, exploring, professions etc,
none of which is too time-critical, I just want to not be surrounded
by crowds constantly, since that takes the fun out of seeing new
places (I was so grateful I got in the first major wave of beta
invites, meaning I did the Pandaren starting zone when it was only a
bit crowded, instead of ridiculously crowded; I'm expecting it to be
dreadful on live for the first while as well so I saw it at the best
time!)

Oh and my beta testing will be held up somewhat by Diablo 3... writing
this while I wait for the server to be a little less busy so I can log
in! Knew this would happen, chances of actually getting through the
login server when there's probably half a million people trying to get
in at once were always pretty slim :-)

There are at least two plate vendors, at levels 86 and 89, who carry a
pretty comprehensive set of gear. I expect there are similar for other
armor types.

It is indeed the case that the class of gear you are offered for quest
handins is determined by the spec you're in at the time; if I don't
think the ret item I'm offered is a significant upgrade, I switch to
healing and get that. The one lvl 89 chain I pursued to the end before
dinging 89 (and ceasing to gain xp) offered blue gear, so I expect I'm
getting near the top.

I don't think I'm 'spoiling' it for myself - just seeing it early. I
do like the new zones a lot.

Have fun!

I was in the Diablo III beta, both open and closed. My reaction was
sort of 'eh'. I'll probably download my free copy, but don't know how
much I'll play.

I can see that being annoying. I like to build up two sets at the
same time and I'll usually choose the piece that is the biggest
upgrade for the relevant set (in the rare occasion that there are two
viable choices).

This will mean that I either don't do that or I need to switch specs
(twice!) every time I need to turn in a quest.

They should show all the choices for your class, not for your spec.

Me too, thankfully most my characters with dual spec use much the same
stats for both anyway but yeah.

Agreed entirely, I don't understand the point in only showing spec
items. Especially at lower lvls where frankly many people will be
downgrading to other armour types and all kinds of things which the
system won't now allow for.

My Priest is fine - just one set for her. My Enhance/Resto Shaman and
Prot/Holy Paladin have conflicting gear requirements for their specs.
I like to get gear for all three specs for my Druid so I need two sets
of gear for him too.

It's no issue for the other characters. The only one with a potential
issue would be the Warrior but he is a very casually played character
who only comes out in the rare times that my friend and I are on at
the same time.

There's four druid specs now ;-) Luckily for me, my characters mostly
use same stats, holy/disc priest, feral/guardian druid (although, who
knows if they may add tanking leather back in given there's monk tanks
too - even if they do it'll be agi-based though), prot/retri paladin,
ele/resto shaman. I always find it annoying having my bags full of
gear so try to pick specs that use much the same stats, which seems to
be a good thing with these changes.
