Ironman: Completed! :

Catriona R

5/1/2012 7:06:00 PM

For anyone who remembers the ironman challenge (lvl using no gear with
stats, no buffs, no grouping, and most importantly, no deaths), I have
just dinged 85! :-D

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/earthen-ring/Iarnaigv...

http://wowir... hasn't updated me yet, but it shows I have
indeed kept within the ruls, and somehow I'm the first warlock and
only the 6th 85 in total. Surprised me tbh, since it didn't feel that
hard to me; the real challenge was keeping a high level of vigilance,
not aggroing adds, being very cautious on tough mobs, etc.

I did have an "easy" class though, the difference between my warlock
and the rogue I had before was enormous; biggest challenges I had with
mobs was moving up into new expansion content, since mobs hit hard if
you don't outlvl them. Cataclysm mobs are horrendous when you're in
greys, I struggled with them at lvl 83, no way anyone would get far at
lower lvl than that (and some classes will never be able to do them
IMO, it takes a pet or excellent kiting/rooting skills to beat these
mobs)

So, challenge complete, wondering what to do with my time now! MoP
beta calls, I think... then Diablo 3 in 2 weeks :-)

Very impressed.

I got to 60 on a warrior worgen before stupidly getting pvp flagged;
but my toon had every bit of heirloom gear he could wear, the best
BoEs gold could buy, and a max level guild (thus about 45+ xp bonus).
This was before the ironman challenge was created.

I remember you doing that! At the time I was thinking it might be
rather easy with heirlooms, but still, takes some concentration to not
mess up too badly even then. But with heirlooms, you tend to be
overpowered and able to take on many mobs at a time, with greys... not
so, lol.

At lvl 84, so the most powerful I ever got (with my *amaaazing* 754
spellpower, most of which came from my fel armor spell), my very
hardest hitting spell (and primary nuke from 48ish onwards, due to my
realising shadowbolt is crap with no talents) was Soul Fire. It hits
for average 3k. The mobs I was killing had 30-40k health... thankfully
for all everyone thinks the voidwalker is crap, he's actually kinda
decent when you have no stats so his dps helped me out a lot. Named
mobs with 75k health were not fun though :-P

Hehe yep! I guess I can be proud of myself on that, given so many have
tried and so few have actually succeeded; I'm actually surprised
nobody else did it with a warlock yet, since it didn't feel that
difficult, but maybe my usual mindset of being careful even on regular
characters is unusual, and so it is harder for many people than it was
for me! Love that website you linked too, it's kinda nice seeing my
name being mentioned there ;-)

That one's great indeed, nicely done comic :-D

Should just be "iron 6", Iarnaig follows my usual habit of Gaelic
names and I believe means iron (I admit, I don't actually speak
Gaelic, so use a dictionary ;-)), and the roman numeral bit is obvious
:-) For the record the other Iarnaigs were:

Iarnaig, 33 troll rogue (died at Sargeron is Desolace, stealthed
satyrs ganged up on me with vanish on cd)
Iarnaigii, 8 troll shaman (still alive, at that point I'd intended one
on each faction but ended up focussing on alliance so this one got a
bit abandoned)
Iarnaigtri, 4 worgen priest (quest bugged out, horse dropped me off
with about 5 feral worgen on my tail, which did not deaggro...)
Iarnaigiv, 14 worgen mage (stupidly didn't notice the poison cloud I
was standing in till it was too late)
Iarnaigv, 48 gnome rogue (Ix'nar the Underlord in EPL has an extremely
nasty insect swarm ability which I didn't realise fast enough to get
out of)

Big gratz Catriona. How many time of /played ?

It's so easy to make a lethal mistake (and my highest ironleveler is only
10).

With an Game of (Iron) Thrones citation. How appropriate :)

8 days, 12 hours, took a while, although 3 hours of that was spent
waiting for a GM to fix my bugged quest when I was 90% through 84 and
blocked in a chain, sigh - bad timing for that to happen!

It certainly is, took me a few attempts and even on this one I had a
few "oh crap" moments which I only narrowly survived!

Be One With The Iron
One year ago, I stood triumphant over the broken corpse of Arthas Menethil, the
Lich King.

One month ago, I looked directly into the eyes of Deathwing
and punched that dragon in the face.

One day ago, I heard the cry of a
lone murloc and nearly soiled my iron pants.
