Monday again, events overload!

Catriona R

2/6/2012 6:48:00 PM

Well last week was pretty quiet, quested through Uldum on my rogue,
found a few items on the AH, worked on leatherworking and dailies, and
that's about it aside from a quick run of first half of DS on my
priest, got a new trinket so great. That was all, until Sunday, when
Darkmoon Faire and Love is in the Air both started - now I'm in a
whirlwind of tons of dailies and event boss runs on 6 different
characters lol - at least that's ended my boredom for now :-P

My shaman now has her Dungeon 2 set chest for transmog, and should be
able to get the belt by the end of this week, which will be set
complete as far as visible bits go (I run with head turned off and
being a troll wearing a kilt, you can't see my boots!) Rogue got his
D2 legs and with luck should get boots too, that'll leave me missing
chest and belt, luckily Ramkahen tabard goes alright with the colours
of the set and belts aren't too conspicuous so it'llbe good enough to
transmog him as well :-) Priest is going for the dancing bear mount
and the pink flamingo from valentines, should get the bear tomorrow I
think, and the flamingo in about a week - also after two resets of
progress, got the Darkmoon artifacts achievement at the third attempt,
phew!

Tip for anyone wanting a farm spot for Lovely Charms - after the
(skippable) first boss in Halls of Lightning is that roomful of fast
respawning elementals; they don't give loot, but they're green, have
15k health so die fast, and their deaths trigger Lovely Charms (or
Grisly Trophies*). 35 mins farming in there got me 250 trophies and
126 charms, pretty good! This was on my priest, too, not my highest
dps character so I stood at the side out of the way just pulling with
dots rather than actively aoeing the lot in the middle, a higher dps
character could probably get more.

*For some people, charms don't drop while you have the quests for
Grisly Trophies. For others, including me, they do - you'll never get
both off the same mob, but if a charm will drop, it drops in place of
the trophy, which drops off every other mob. Some people are
experiencing the trophy having priority though, so be warned!

If you can kill the first boss in regular Throne of the Tides by yourself
(or get friends to help), the corridor leading to the last boss is a great
spot for farming charms. The little elementals respawn very quickly and
have quite low health.

I don't envy you running multiple alts through the events. I only work
on my main. For the Chinese New Year event, I had all the
achievements, so all I had to do was get the elders in the new zones,
and enough extra to get the pet.

I was surprised that I didn't need to do the questline to get the
mount daily for Valentines (Big Red Rocket), and it seems no harder
than last year, which means that any pug now completes it in a minute
or so, with no strategy involved.

I didn't realize there was another mount and a pet; I'll have to grind
those too (again, I already have all the achievements). How much dps
do you need to get into the useful parts of HoS? I might try that, but
my dps is kind of pitiful.

I'm probably going to max out DM rep this week. What is there useful
to do with the tickets?

Hint: You're 2-manning it, so only seeing trophies every other drop
;-) If you're soloing, it's every drop.

I've already done everything on my main, so only have any new
achievements and any pets/mounts to work on with him - the lunar
festival pets were boe anyway so all I did was cataclysm elders. Rest
of my 85s all did the whole thing though (well, the world ones, only
one did Ironforge and the dungeons so far!), for maximum guild exp on
horde side, and my alliance rogue did it so as to have a pet to
transfer across to my main for his collection. Was pretty fast guild
exp, we were stuck around 65-70% of the lvl, now over 90% through,
great!

Hehe yeah it's easymode now, great for my many alts who rarely group!
Granted the necklaces are pretty useless but oh well, justice points
are always good and overall it helps with the achievements; can't pick
which alt to focus on and try to do the lot so I'll probably just do
bits and bobs on all the alts. First alt to get a pet drop was not my
collector, there's a surprise :-P

I got to the elementals I mentioned (HoL btw, rather than HoS) on my
priest, who hasn't got a dps spec :-) Disc smite spec was more than
enough; you can skip the boss by waiting till he moves away and
nipping past, and once in the room full of eles, no problem.
Admittedly selfhealing and good mana regen help but you can go and sit
in a corner to get out of combat and eat/drink anyway.

>I'm probably going to max out DM rep this week. What is there useful

Pets, mounts or replicas of the old lvl 60 dungeon sets for transmog
purposes - I've got my main going for pets/mounts and two alts getting
their transmog sets from it, it's gone faster than I expected :-) Oh
and there's heirlooms too, same ones you get from justice points
though so nothing too exciting.

Nope, that's not at all what I'm saying - I soloed everything. The
trophies don't drop, IF a lucky charm drops - it's one or the other,
never both. For some, the charms have priority over the trophy so you
see charms from those mobs and not trophies, for others, the trophies
seem to have priority, so you never get a charm until you've had all
250 trophies.

Last night, I found another good (perhaps better) grinding area;
Hyjal, The Verdant Thicket. It's full of fast-respawning level 80s
that even my main's cruddy dps can 1 or 2-shot, and has easy access to
Stormwind.

I can confirm this. I was solo killing the seasonal mobs in Uldum
this morning and just kept going to farm charms (they respawn pretty
fast). On about a third of the kills, I got a charm; from the rest I
got a grisly trophy. I noticed that I never got both from the same
kill. One upside of the Uldum mobs is that they also drop embersilk
for my tailor.

On my guy, the Grisly Trophies were the only thing drop until I put
their item in the bank. After that, I got charms about 1/3 of the
time.

Ah, my apologies, I read "every other" to mean every second, not what
you meant of every one that didn't give a charm. /smacks self: L2Read,
noob! ;-)

A slightly OT question: Is "A Test of Your Strength" a one-shot deal?
I've turned it in on 2 so far, and was hoping to get it again, but
even going back a couple days later I'm not seeing it.

Once per Faire, like the professions quests, you can go back and do it
again next month. Kinda annoying for my rogue who wasn't levelling in
the last Faire so completed it between faires when he did lvl...
handed in at the start of this one and ofc can't get it again, bah :-P
