The Launcher is optimizing World of Warcraft

k

Just attempting to log in now on both my and my wifes machine and I was met
with this:

"The Launcher is optimizing your World of Warcraft install. This is a
process we run from time to time to improve game performance and reduce the
size of the install on your hard drive.

The entire process will take approximately 15 minutes under normal
conditions. Please do not close the Launcher or run World of Warcraft during
this time.

Thank you for your patience!"

from time to time? I've never seen it before.. I hope it doens't mangle
anything as I havent backed up my wow install for quite some time !!

That's a change with this patch, it was announced beforehand -
basically it's removing lots of old patchfiles and downloading new
files that contain all the data in one place, or something like that,
apparently should improve the way the game runs if it doesn't have to
look in 10 different files for each bit of info. Sucks if you're on a
limited bandwidth connection though, 1.2GB sounds a lot! Guess I'd
better start mine off, I've heard it cane take some time to run...

Heh, mine completed and I've still got an old install on another
folder to compare the two - far fewer patch files in the Data folder
now and over 4GB smaller overall (and the old install has all
screenshots, addons and UI data removed, so the new one should be
bigger than it), that's quite an improvement!

I've started my Wow up and didn't get this. I logged all the way to
the character screen and didn't get it.

Yea - I have a decent machine and it took 20 minutes to do the optimize
and another 20 to complete the download and update. Not a lot of people
on last night when I did get on. I usually see a bunch of guilds
milling about together getting ready for a raid on Tuesday
nights....Betcha that patch screwed up a lot of raids last night :)

Wish I would have know that it would take that long or I would have
started it when I got home from work so it was ready to go when I was
ready to play later.

I started listening to some music, leaned back in my chair and actually
dozed off for 15 minutes.... Only the second time I ever did that
"playing" wow (even though this time I wasn't actually playing). One
time I qued for a dungeon at 10pm(ish) and woke up with "you've been
disconnected from the server" message, and saw it was 3am....Ever wonder
what actually happened to that DPS when you que and everyone accepts but
him and he gets "x"'ed out? Could be that... lol

Mine was one of them - we got started 30 minutes late because people
were slow getting on. Not only did people have to download and install
the patch; there were also addons to deal with (even if only to check
'load out-of-date addons').

I normally play a healer, so I get antsy if it takes me more than 2-3
minutes to get a 5-man slot. If someone fails to show, it's a dps a
good deal more than 60% of the time. I always assume that dps have to
queue so long that they are more likely to be afk when the summons
comes.

With the 4.3.2 patch we'll be testing some new file optimization tech. As you may be
aware, with previous major expansion patches (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc.) we've carried out a
time-consuming process to reorganize the ......

lucky on the 1.2GB
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/...
some are getting 16GB download.

I typically get home from work around 6:30-ish, and raid time is 8. I
either grab a snack, take a quick nap, watch some DvDs, surf the
Forums, etc., before logging into the game for the night at 7:30 for
pre-raid preparations.

At 7:00 I was reading threads about the patch when I thought, "Hey, I
should probably start downloading this bad boy". I just made it to the
Green (Playable) status at 7:52.

At least one of my guildies had to reinstall the entire game for some
reason.

heh...glad you made it....When my guild was raiding consistently, our
raid nights were Wednesday, Friday and Sunday as we had gotten burned by
Tuesday nights on more than one occasion.

ouch!

I did notice most if not all of my updates were still left behind in the
update folder, including a nice fat 1.2Gb file WoW-3.2.0-enUS-patch.exe

ah well.. like you said, better than a 16Gb dl ;)
