A good leader need to do much more than just say "Follow
me, I'm the leader."
Chen is intelligent (Rhodes scholar)...well educated (in Harvard
Oxford and Stanford), but ....
He doesn't have a powerful personality and charisma. He
appear to be a old teacher or a wise man in ancient China
to me....NOT like Lee Kuan Yew who attracted strangers like
a magnet...when he first started out.

Singaporeans, like me, are impressed by his utterances,
his in depth understanding about the problem of the PAP
government...what need to be done.
Until now he has done nothing to unseat PAP...like what
LKY had done to David Marshall. Is he another NATO (no
action talk only) politician ?

In addition to talking well, a good leader MUST be like
a good cat...able to catch mice.
( Remember Teng's words "it doesn't matter it is a black
cat or white cat...if it catches mice, it is a good cat" )

If he cannot catch mice, then he is NOT a good leader...
he will be a useless leader like Obama who can talk...
but cannot do...cannot produce results.

A good cat is like a cougar? Catching all the newshit business? The
more important criteria for success is Health. Not Wealth. To meet
him, go to his Meet the People session. Meet him before the cougars
do, to un-neutralise the damage.

What has he done so far....NOTHING...except talking.

We have enough "talk only" politician. We don't want
more useless 'NATO' MPs in our parliament.

I am one of those in Aljunied GRC who voted for him.
So far, he appears to be just like the lazy FAT CATs in
PAP.

I am still waiting for him to do something to prove him
self....to prove that he is good cat.
I am waiting for him to catch the mice.

May be... he is acting like the old horse in WP...
After the election, DO NOTHING at all....until the next
election. This is the reason why PAP has been
winning ...all the time.

I expect to see Chan as a younger version of LKY...
but now I don't see him as dynamic as LKY.

When LKY first started out, he did not just give speeches.
He had plans to unseat David Marshall.. systematically.
He worked very hard...to become friends of the people...
with the workers (through Unions), with the students,...
LKY and Goh Keng Swee met the people personally
often ( I remember as a kid, often see Goh Keng Swee
come to Banda Street in China town, the area where
the folks gathered in the evening for chit-chat.. He spent
time with us...) Within a year, he was our friend..one of us.
Almost everyone voted for Goh.
Now PAP has complete control over the unions, the students,
the youth organisations and the media....but there is nothing
to stop Chan and others in WP to meet the people in
places where people gathered...in parks, in coffee shops..
among exercise groups....to chat with them...to become
the friends of the people. (I am sure there is no law against
making friends with the people)

Society has changed...now the press, unions and
youth organisation are the only ways to reach the
people.
Chan can reach the mass...the people ...using the
internet chat room, bloggers and internet social and
culture forums.
Youths in Poly and colleges and poor workers could
be recruited ...to start blogs, chat forums...facebook chat....
about our social problems and how and what they could
do to make social changes...to improve their lives.

If Chan was to start these actions now to unseat PAP, he
has four years to build a formidable force which could
win a majority for WP in the next election.

Of course, PAP will NOT sit back ...and allow Chan to use
a free pass...to wrestle power from PAP. He must be
prepared to face all eventuality. ..including being sued
and going to jail.

There is a big difference between 'soft power' and being nearly
comatose.

The electorate have done their job by putting him and his colleagues
in parliament. The ball is in their hands now. The electorate did not
elect them to sit in parliament and be the audience to cheer the PAP
team. They are there to make sure the government stays on their toes
and when cabinet ministers make ludicrous statements to call them out
on it.

The WP's role at the moment is to make the government more accountable
to the people of Singapore for their policies. It is not in the
position to take over the role of government.

Is that the position of Chan, the position of WP
or an idea cleverly planted in the minds of Singaporeans
or is it your position?

When PAP first took over the govt from the
British, was it "ready" ? Was LKY ready ?

It is all about....serving Singaporeans. Is PAP
now serving Singaporeans that well that no
opposition leader can match them ! As long as
Chan can do better to serve the people, can
out perform PAP, (not that difficult really,) Chan
is ready.

If and when Chan get the majority,... Singaporeans
say that he is in a position to serve them..
Whatever others think or PAP say... DO NOT count.

why don't you be WP consultant?

also: how to reach out to the daft people, Internet-illiterate (mostly
PAP supporters?)?
