I Now Have Zero, Count 'Em, Zero Valor Points!

Orion Ryder

I must have missed the second memo.

I could swear that I initially saw that everything was going to be
converted to Valor Points.

Or is it that Valor Items become Justice Items and new higher item
level gear is now going to be for sale atr the Valor Vendor?

I'll have to text my wife and tell her to check out that possibility.

If that is what happened then where are the Justice Point items now?

This is what happens when you have young kids. Instead of reading
about all this stuff on the web you bring them to the pool.

I'm not patched yet but my assumption was:

- Old JP balance remains JP
- Old VP balance is converted to JP and added to JP balance
- Anything above 4000 JP is converted to gold

- Old VP items are moved to the JP vendor to be sold for JP
- New VP items are introduced on the VP vendor
- Old JP items may or may not remain on vendor (assuming if a former VP item
is now available for JP in a slot, that old JP item will be replaced and
if there is no VP item for a slot the former JP item would remain - this
is speculation on my part, though, especially as I don't know what the
slot distribution of VP items was; I know that HP and JP items
complemented each other nicely in some slots)

Cheers

Valor was converted to Justice.

Yes.

All the old Justice and Valor items are now on the Justice vendor and
cost Justice points, and the Valor vendor has new stuff.

Old Justice points items are all still on the vendor, just checked.
It's somewhat amusing to see a blue item for the same price as an epic
one for the same slot!

I still don't understand why the conversion was one to one, instead of some
multiple of JP per VP.

And I don't see the point of the caps.

The weekly cap or the total amount cap?

The weekly cap is to slow down the rate at which people earn points, which
helps the content last longer and also helps prevent player burnout.

The total amount cap is to prevent people from being able to buy a whole
slew of gear all at once. I'm not sure exactly why this is bad, but I'm
sure there are good reasons.

In other words, to protect Blizzard's income. If people "burned out" (ie.
consumed all the content quickly) and moved on to other games, Blizzard
would lose its cash cow, at least for those who pay by the month and stop
playing when they've "used up" the content and wait for an expansion.

Yeah, that's the one I'm wondering about. It makes no sense to me.

It could just be another pacing mechanism. If there were no total JP
cap, some non-raiders could have bought every single ex-Valor item on
Tuesday and then they would have nothing to look forward to.

Burnout has nothing to do with clearing the content.

If there were no weekly limit on valor points, some players would feel
obligated to run dozens of heroics every week in addition to raiding, to
get as much valor as possible. This can lead to burnout. (For example,
back when TOC had four separate lockouts, some players felt they had to
run all four every week to stay "competitive".)

The system they use now does lead to burnouts for some...

The major point is to slowdown progress for two reasons:
1) Dev need to keep up making new stuff
2) Vivendi want Blizz to increase profit

After Vivendi got hold of the majority of the stocks, you can if you
want ro analyse, find a clear change in the actions of Blizzard.

It was Vivendi who cansled Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, at the time their
sale of mineral water failed in Europe, so the company had to cut
potential losses, after they had cut losses for 3 years...

Oh Mr. Fischer, you're such a card.

Stupid, but still pretty funny sometimes.
