4.2 valor points

John Gordon

6/13/2011 3:16:00 PM

I have heard that when the new raid is released in the 4.2 patch, normal
modes of the starting cata raid content (Bastion of Twilight and Blackwing
Descent) will be heavily nerfed and award Justice points instead of Valor
points.

I read the test realm patch notes for 4.2 and I saw the nerfs but not the
justice point change. Has that been revoked? Was it only a rumor?

I heard something like that, but not quite. Yes, to the nerfing (or
buff) to the BoT and BWD raids - something like the 30% buff you used to
get in ICC...

All existing Valor Points in the Currency tab have been converted to
Justice Points. Any points above the Justice Point cap will be converted
into gold at a rate of 47 silver per point and mailed to characters.

Basically, I'm guessing that the current tier gear is shifting down a
notch...

That is also how I understood it. Say you have 2000 JP and 2500 VP, you'll
end up with 4k JP and some gold and 0 VP. The stuff you're currently buying
for VP will in the future be sold for JP, the current JP gear will be gone
and better new VP gear comes in.

I may be wrong of course, but that's how I read it.

Yes - That's the way I understand it as well. I'm just not sure on the
"current jp gear will be gone" thing. I can't imagine them dropping all
that 346 gear from game, but I'm probably wrong. However, maybe they'll
just sprinkle all the current jp gear as drops throughout the regular,
non-heroic dungeons or maybe into world drops. Or maybe it really does
just get removed....dunno.

With items like weapons, shields, off-hands, etc, that aren't
currently in the Valor tier of items, it seems unlikely they would
drop them from the JP vendor.

Or they might just *add* the current VP items as new JP items in addition to
the 346 JP items... In any case, just when I've decked out my Resto Shammy
with all but one 346 JP and all but two 352 HP items and all the 359 epic
rep items I'll have to go back to grind more JP for the new stuff :)

Or I might finally take him into a heroic and go straight for the new VP
stuff when it comes out...

Not quite what you're asking, but I saw this on the Forums this
morning.

Valor Point Conversion in 4.2

"World of Warcraft update 4.2, Rage of the Firelands, will introduce
the first new raid tier in Cataclysm, and with that it will also
introduce the first conversion from Valor Points to Justice Points.
For anyone running Heroics and raids, this is important information to
ensure you spend your points wisely before release of the patch.

With the release of patch 4.2 all Valor Points will be converted down
to Justice Points up to the 4,000 point cap, with any points over the
cap being converted to gold at a rate of 47 silver per point. In
addition, all previous Tier 11 Valor items will now be purchasable
with Justice from the Justice Point vendors, and new Tier 12 Valor
items will be available from the Valor vendors.

For example: I have 3,300 Justice Points and 1,600 Valor Points. Upon
logging in after 4.2 releases I’ll see that my Valor has been down-
converted to Justice; I now have 4000 Justice Points and 0 Valor
Points. 900 of my Valor Points were over the 4,000 point cap, they
converted at a rate of 47 silver per point (.47x900), and so I
received 423 gold as compensation.

The maximum you can have is 4,000 Justice points, and Justice will be
able to buy Tier 11 gear, so it’s important to go ahead and spend
Valor before 4.2 if the conversion would take you over the 4,000-point
Justice cap and you have no need for the gold."

I'm trying to see if I can find what sort of tokens raids will drop.

I checked all my toons last night to make sure I wouldn't go over. I'm
in really good shape on a couple that should get me close to max JP
after the conversion without wasting any valor.

The only thing I didn't see explained (or I missed it) was what the new
JP earnings are. In other words, right now, reg dungeons get you X
amount of Jp for completing the dungeon. Heroics get you X amount of JP
for each boss, and X amount of Valor for completion. Is that still
going to apply going forward and they are just making sure everyone
starts at 0 Valor so they can't log in with 4K Valor and buy almost 2
pcs of tier 12 in the first 5 minutes? Are they going back to the
original Cata release of earning JP's? When cata came out, the number
was 70 JP for reg and 70 Valor for heroic, but they bumped that up.

[snip explanation on how conversion works, pretty much what we expected]

That is my assumption.

I guess that is the reason.

I certainly hope not :-)
