School of Hard Knocks Exit Counseling Support Group

Orion Ryder

5/7/2011 11:42:00 PM

Hello, my name is Orion Ryder and if anyone out there is like me they
are only a shell of a person after the grueling week of (spit, double
spit, triple spit) School of Hard Knocks grinding.

I was able to get the other 6 family toons through the achivement.

1. My true main, the holy priest
2. My second healer and elemental shaman
3. My son Tyler's hunter (on our shared account)
4. My 3rd healer paladin
5. My son Nik's shadow priest
6. My tiny but annoying mage

I am drained. It has been hell. Six more violet proto drakes in the
house and 6 more Master Flying or RIding or whatever they call it.

Now I can get back to grinding through zone quests and advancing
towards better and stronger gear.

That is if I can actually get mysellf to log in without my nerves
being rattled.

For sure that achievement is da shitz!!

I will add the following observations and occurences so that others
can possibly use my experience to overcome any psychological traumas
they developed whilst grinding that achievement, or for the sake of
real PvPers, putting up with those who were trying for the
achievement.

1. I ahd a lot of fun with my elemental shaman in Eye of the Storm in
the middle flag area. As often as I could and at the most beneficial
times I made sure I used Thunderstorm and watched in glee as anywhere
from 1 to 4 horde got shot off the cliff to their gravitational demise
in the shifting ether below. It also illicited a few LoLs from the
group. If I wanted to PvP and have fun I think this is one of the
toons I would do it with jsut to use that skill.

2. Warsong Gulch is the hardest. The other three in my opinion are
nothing compared to having chase down the flag carrier in hopes of
being right there when the flag was fallen.

3. It was fun making comments in trade about the achievement and it
did let off some steam and others joined in and had fun also

4. It was also fun the other day when I was letting off some steam in
trade and someone commenteed to me that maybe I jsut stunk and could
not do that achievement and then I remarked (at that time) that I had
already done it on 7 toons and needed it on two more for the VPD.

5. Having done 9 toons on this achievement I do believe that makes me
somewhat of an authoritity and this is what I have to say as a
somehwat of an authority
It IS a very difficult achievment
It is a stupid achivement to do as an individual
I saw someone return the flag in WSG with an orphan and then on a
subsequest fall they returned it again - how selfish (but not as
selfish as me being in there just forthe achievement HA HA but I don't
care because it is over now)
I actually did stay a few times and help to win the battle. I guess
I am nto all that bad
If someone in our guild can kill a troll warlock we will get the
Horde Killer achievement and can get a companion, not that I want one
but my son Nik is approaching 75 companions and working hard at it.
This will help him

6. I think that when I saw a horde dropping the flag for the alliance,
I seriously think that it was a Blizz empoyee logging in and helping.
Please don't report them. They were nice to do that.

Well that is it for now

Three cheers!!

OH! OH! OH!

Awoogah!

As I mentioned to you, two of my guildmates, Hawk and SR, also managed
to get the chieve, meaning that everyone I know who was working on it
got it. That *definitely* deserves three cheers!

Now, a question: If you get part of School of Hard Knocks, does it
stay, or do you have to do them all in the same year? My Druid was in
AV today, and toward the end of a very bad battle, managed to stealth
past the Horde waiting in front of Galv and made it to IceBlood Tower.
No Horde around, so I summoned Kekek, and tagged the flag. I was
*very* surprised when that got me the assault a tower part, since I
thought it had to cap (which it did, anyway). So the question is; if I
decide to do the rest of the chieve (which I *won't*, but that's
beside the point ;-) ) will I have to assault a tower again?

I don't know anyone that didn't get it.
It's really not as hard as people make it out to be.
This is the second year I did it, and I got it again, quite easily.
I didn't even strategize for it, or get help, I just played the game.

I consider myself an adequate, but not good PvP player, with experience
but not with skillz. I also play on a PvP server, but performed the
whole thing in PvE gear.

I appreciate that some people find it hard, for various reasons, but
I don't see how that is bad. - I don't find it bad that I can't get
the gladiator dragons. That's just a part of the game that I have to
accept isn't for me.

Damn. That is a good question.
I'd love to find out the answer to that.
The Children's week is now over - how does the achievement look in
your interface? Are the completed goals still highlighted?

That explains your feelings towards the achievement.
You've actually been grinding it. It definitely wasn't designed for
that.

Congratulations :)
Some people complain they can't even get it on one character, but
you've proven that it's a doable achievement by getting it on 6!

> For sure that achievement is da shitz!!

That's slang for "awesome" in my book, so I'll agree ;)

lol
.... Actually I hate being at the recieving end of any knock-back
ability. I just hate them. But I can see the fun in it here, not
being at the recieving end of it :)

In any well-played WSG, your team SHOULD be attempting to get your
flag back, so this oughtn't be that hard.

Better out than in.

You are hardcore :)

Well, you have more experience with it than me, but I just don't see
it that way. Challenging, sure. Impossible, no. Difficult? Only enough
to make it challenging.

> It is a stupid achivement to do as an individual

Only ever done it as an individual, and I disagree.

As I stated above, you have to return the flag in WSG. It's the
responsibility of those on the achievement to be there when it happens,
not the responsibility of the PvP players to give them a free
achievement.

> I actually did stay a few times and help to win the battle. I guess
> I am nto all that bad

There is no way I could go in there for just the achievement and leave
after I got it. I never leave something I sign up for. I guess it's just
how I was raised.

I saw that happen several times in a WSG run just after I'd returned the
flag myself. That is nice behaviour indeed, but it shouldn't be expected
behaviour.

Lol. He was selfish for playing the BG as it's SUPPOSED to be played?

My guild is missing a dwarf warlock for that achievement. I will say yours
is a LOT easier to find than mine is(I've...never actually seen a dwarf
lock, and I PvP a lot, troll locks at least aren't that uncommon).

Heh. I'm at 130...without that pet.

It stays, I had one of the achievements from last year when the event
this year started.

Good for you. Personally, I gave up on it this year. I couldn't stand
the rude behavior. Honestly, I am convinced that most serious PvP'ers
are just bad mannered 11 year olds.

Only 51 weeks out of the year it is SUPPOSED to played in the required
anal retentive manner.

For this one week out of the 52 the message Blizz was trying to put
out is that the achievers are the guests in the PvPers area. They
should be treated like guests and with respect. And that is how it
goes no ifs and or butts, especialy big butts.

Well we have 4 in our guild and we specialize in PvE. I would say
let's race but 1. your guild I suspect has a lot more than 4 and 2.
you are on a PvP realm.

I guess that is pretty good. I had no idea that there were even that
many. Good luck on your next tiered achievement regarding this.

No, it's supposed to be played that way year round. The achievement is
supposed to be gotten by playing the BGs properly.

I am? This is news to me.

There's something like 179 or so total, counting all the TCG pets(I don't
buy TCG, so I'll never have a shot at those), all the collector's edition
pets, and all the "region exclusive" pets(like the Taiwan only ones).

You must have missed the memo about "cooperation" being encouraged by
Blizz. If you don't believe me check the realm with the posts
regarding the School of Hard Knocks achievement.

Oops I thought you were sorry. Will since you PvP so much you alone
can still get it before us.

I see. I guess Nik will be glad to hear that he can get many more.

It cost me a death to check, due to the vagaries of when WoW crashed
on me, but yes, Assault a Tower is still highlighted ;-)
