Too many movies... :

burt

5/1/2011 4:58:00 AM

I have finally gotten around to taking out my level 80 DK and moving him
up a bit. Now at level 83, and I find I am bored by the constant
interruptions of movies to tell what is going on. I have seen them
referred to as "cutscenes" but they are movies by any name.

Seems WoW has morphed from a free roaming game into a linear game where
I have to do each step in sequence, and watch movies along the way to
explain what the story line is supposed to be.

If i want to skip a particular quest? Need to move to a new region
because you are then blocked from moving forward in that one.

Bleh. Major step backward IMNSHO...

Yes, that has been discussed here after Cata launched. It's great for those
who love the lore as the quest lines now really tell a story (stories) that
tie in well with the over all story.

On the other hand, if you get stuck on a quest or want to skip some, you're
out of luck and it may even become annoying for us lore lovers on the
umpteenth character.

On the whole, I still think it's a step forward, though with a few
disadvantages.

Cheers

I think that blizz has put some balance between those player
lore-addicted (like me, I love to do the same chain on different toons
to re-read the questline, because english is not my home language, so I
have some difficult to read first time), and those not

the problem is: what if you have only one char and want to achieve
"loremaster"?

the question self explain his answer, IMO :D

You would rather skip a quest then do it cause of the movie?
You do know you can just right click and select skip cinematic?

Skipping the quest and the movie are two distinct and separate
complaints.

When I want to skp a quest, it is not because of the movie, but rather I
can't find the opponent, or am having more trouble with it than I want
to bother with. To skip the quest usually means I am then locked out of
the rest of the realm and must either find an alternate realm, or forge
through something I would have simply bypassed in earlier version of
WOW.

When I started WOW (4 years ago), it was a mostly non-linear game.
There were some quest chains, but they were the exceptions. Now they
are the norm. I don't like the change... :(

You can ESC out of those cutscenes, if I recall correctly.

And I agree about the quests. Go ahead and start laughing, but I
cannot do quests where I have to kill neutral (yellow) mobs. As a
result, a great deal of Vash'jir is not available to me. My main has
all the quests done for every other zone in Cataclysm except this
place. Want to skip that quest where I have to kill those cute little
crabs. Can't.

I think a WoW character with... character is pretty cool. I won't
be running one any time soon, so I can just admire those who do.

Some you can, some you can't. In Vash'jir, alliance at least, near
the end when you're going around and around in circles in the sub, you
can't esc from it and just have to wait it out. And sometimes, at
least for me, esc from the cut scene caused me to Disconnect.

If you havn't done the gnome's totem quest there I think you can keep
killing the
enraged crabs for the item you need for the gnome.

She may be stuck a lot earlier that that. As I recall, you have to kill
yellow crabs for food for the stranded soldiers as one of the very first
quests in the zone.

But there weren't that many surely? For the Indiana Jones, there were a
bit (can you can press esc i seem to remember), but its just another
quest chain like there have been in wow for ever.
