Husband and Wife Venture Out Into First Heroic Together!

Orion Ryder

I had fun on this one. My wife seemed somewhat frustrated but she did
well and in the end it was success.

We ended up in the Throne of Tides. I have to say we ended up with a
good tank. And by good I am not saying that he was elite in the sense
that he could barrel on through the place. By good I mean that he was
a good team player and he criticised nobody. He just tried to do his
job and do it well and on top of that he did a fairly good job.

We wiped twice on the first boss and on the third time we took her
down but the end was hilarious. My wife's rogue and the tank died when
the boss was at about 17% and the mage and the hunter kept DPSing and
I healed whoever needed it the most. It was a race. Then at about 3%
the hunter died. And between having no mana left and trying to sneak
in heals whenever I could and the boss at 1% I kept giving the mage
whatever I could to stay alive and then finally the boss hit the floor
and the mage followed and it was just me standing there and we all let
out a hearty cheer. OH! OH! OH!

The second boss was easier.

Then we went down stairs and wiped on the Octopus Head on Erunak a few
times then left him there to suffer and we worked out way down the
road to the last boss.

I must say there is some devastating AoE damage from those elementals
down that hall.

A few wipes but the nwe finally finished off the battle and there we
were with our first 70 valors sitting in our currency bin.

I ended up with 2 achievements. First one making the first boss kill
one of the adds with her spout. The second one was tougher [Prince of
Tides] on the last boss.

My wife got neither achievement because she was dead when they were
given out and despite not releasing she did not get credit. She was
robbed!

My wife was very upset about all the deaths but after pulling in the
quest reward gold it slightly surpassed our repair bill. LOL

She did well I thought. Her overall DPS for the whole place was over
9K so tip your hat to this lady son.

I can't wait ot do some more.

OH! OH! OH!

That boss isn't too bad, but his Lava Bolt spell *must* be interrupted or
the target takes a truckload of damage. Also dispel Emberstrike from the
tank, and avoid the stone spikes that come up from the ground.

Once you dps Erunak down to 50%, the boss jumps off his head and can be
attacked directly. Don't cast spells on him while Absorb Magic is up
because it heals him, and stay out of the green cloud.

From time to time he will jump on top of one of the players' heads and
mindcontrol them; dps that player down to 50% to break the mindcontrol.

We did get that far but by the time we were getting MCed the tank was
dead and before long I was too low on mana to keep the rest alive. If
there was a healy off spec there like a shaman we could have piggy
backed healing and kept the DPS up long enough to take it down. But I
was alone in paradise. Then I was dead.

Mages can also throw him off by Ice Block, which tosses him back in the
air while he searches for someone else. He seems to "meander" about,
not taking a direct line to another player, so in these cases if the dps
is on the ball, you then have everyone on him and he usually goes down
before he can lock onto someone else. If you have a way to throw him
off like the mage's ice block - try it.

As it's an optional boss, I don't get to fight him often. I'm starting
to notice more and more skips in heroics as people don't need the gear,
but the valor points.

In recent runs, I find we are skipping that one in ToT, Blackrock -
Corla & Beauty, GB - The third boss (as well as after killing the second
boss, more groups are just running back to the drakes and taking them
over to avoid fighting through trash), HoO - all three optional bosses
on the top floor. I haven't gotten a group that skipped the camel boss
yet, so I'm not sure if he can be skipped. He's so easy and fun to do
anyway and it's a pretty easy "straw that broke the camels back" achieve
(at least for casters), but he seems skippable...

Interesting.

Does this mean that in Lost City one can go all the way to the last
two bosses if the intention is just to get valors?

I think in HoO you have to kill the camel boss to open to open the
lift upstairs.

Pretty sure the first boss is not optional. I'm not sure about Lockjaw
though, as I never have been is a group that suggested it, so not sure
it can be skipped or not.

Again - never been in a group that skipped, so chances are you are
correct. Also, every time I've been in there the direction is to the
right to kill camel boss, then port back to lift room, then you don't
take the lift, but go to the left to go take down the 4 mini bosses and
the big guy in there. I thought he was the boss that controls the
lift....dunno. The fact that there's a portal from each boss back to
the lift suggests that neither is optional. Guess it's time for me to
break out Google and look it up myself.... :)

The only required bosses in Halls of Origination are Anhuur, Anraphet
(the boss after the four minibosses)--which opens the elevator-and
Rajh.

Dispel?

Damn it!! I could have done that. You'd think though that DBM would
let me know!

I've always wondered about that when I see the DBM warning about "stop
casting". Who is this aimed at? Anyone "casting" a spell or just mana users?
Is my steady shot or cobra shot something I should stop "casting" or isn't
it properly a spell as it no longer uses mana?

So far I have always stopped to be on the safe side but am uncertain if it
is necessary or not.

Cheers
