PvP gear for PvE?

petertrei

2/1/2011 3:29:00 PM

Honor was easy to get in TB; especially early on.

As a result, I've geared up my holy Pally with a lot of PvP blues,
reforged, enchanted, and gemmed them to make them as effective as
possible for PvE.

This actually seems to work pretty well for me. Yes, I've got wasted
resilience replacing another stat, and will eventually be replacing
them with boss drops or Valor Point gear, but the stats are, for the
most part, actually better than those of Justice Point blues, and JPs
come a lot slower.

Check the Holy spec for Vamoose, Misha-US. I'd love to hear opinions
on this practice, for which I get criticized sometimes. Nonetheless, I
was getting 10-13 khps against the first boss in 10-man Blackwind
Descent last week.

BTW, the 'Reforginator' add-on is very, very useful.

I think it depends perhaps on the class and spec. For Holy Paladins,
for example, what stats would you be missing with PvP gear? Mastery?
Not a big deal. Holy Paladin Mastery is terrible. Crit? Eh. Haste?
Well, that one is important. My Paladin, Mercader on Quel'dorei, has
1,948 Haste, and I still feel like I'm casting in molasses. Spirit? I
have found actually that as my gear's gotten better, my Spririt's
decreased (the Valor Point boots, for example, have zero Spirit);
however, with the way Paladins get mana back by judging, and with the
upcoming buff to Divine Plea, while Spirit is important, I'm not sure
it's as important for us as other healers.

Side note: isn't it weird how there is no back graphic for the
Elementium Stormshield?

I'm using 3 pvp pieces on my priest, yes - ilvl 352 blue vs 318 green
= no contest! Sure I don't get haste/mastery or whatever extra stat I
miss out on, but I get so much more int/spirit that it's very much
worthwhile. I do expect to replace them when I can get 346 blues for
those slots, however I'm not running heroics right now, so I think I'm
better off using pvp pieces than greens. I'm surprised they made the
pvp blues such high itemlvl tbh, since it's likely that anybody who
isn't farming heroics will find pvp pieces well worth getting to fill
in gaps.

A shame I detest pvping on my druid, since he's got several slots
where he can't get anything better than green without running heroics
(and I hate tanking for pugs on normal mode, never mind heroic, while
I'm really not very good at dpsing in catform), suspect I'll level my
leatherworker and make him the pvp-orientated crafted pieces for those
slots instead; they still beat greens!

Have you tried reforging? That bumped Vam up a few hundred points. The
Reforginator addon makes it easy.

Spirit gets important in long fights. As you've probably seen, I'm
prioritizing Intellect, then Spirit and Haste. This is pretty well
following the guidelines in the EJ forums. At the moment, with spirit,
judging and DP, I can pretty much spam Holy Light continuously. To bad
its no longer my big heal.

Sure is - not only that, the shield is *tiny* compared to some of
others Vamoose carried. I spent 4500g on that one in the AH, and think
it was worth it - Vam finished WotLK still using an ilvl 213 shield
from regular Nax, and I didn't want to repeat that. I'm hoping it will
get a socket in the next patch.

I think you misunderstood me. I have 1,948 Haste. That's one of the
highest Haste ratings I have seen. I have already reforged everything
possible to Haste.

My comment was more sarcasm that heals in Cata take so long, even with
almost 2,000 Haste rating, I still feel like a WoW version of an Ent.

I have healed the first few raid bosses and still had mana long after
the other classes went OOM.

According to sites I have read it is BiS for Holy Paladins.

I just wish they'd fix the bug, though (which has been reported on the
Bug Forums). I feel so nekkids with no visible shield on my back. :-)

My arms warrior uses PvP shoulders, necklace, and belt in his PvE gear,
because even with resi, they're still way better than the previous 312-318
greens he had in those slots from quest rewards.

That *is* impressive - Vam has only 800 haste (and 2170 Spirit).

I dunno - I have the cloak from Hyjal now, and its so pretty I don't
really want to cover it up.

Isn't it Reforgenator?

Ahhh yes, you are correct.

It can also be had with WowMatrix if you prefer, that's what I did.

Yup - I misspelled it, and away from agw for a bit. Thanks for the
correction.
