Wow Armory Advanced

Hi,

I've not looked at the armory much for a while but I've just seen a
new feature on it that is quite good. When checking out a character
you can look at an advanced view which shows you all the enchants that
they have (without having to hover over them). It highlights
unenchanted items and gives a summary of gem and enchant bonuses that
you have.

It also does a character audit, telling you what you can do to your
current gear to improve it. For example, it tells me that my priest
is missing a glyph, has an unenchanted item, doesn't have an ebonsteel
belt buckle and isn't getting the full benefit of my JC profession
because I don't have any Chimera's Eyes in my gear (I actually don't
have any sockets at all to put them in).

It's quite cool - here's my priest:

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/ravenholdt/jela...

One thing that I do notice is that the average item level is not the
same one that it shows in game. In game, it tells me that I have an
average item level of 329 (allowing me to do heroics) but the armoury
tells me that it is 316 (326 equipped). I don't know where it gets
the 316 from but the 326 equipped is correct.

Also, it has a link to your character's profile on wowhead which (when
you fill the profile in) would allow you to use its find an upgrade
feature, replacing the feature that the armory used to have.

It's good (when it works) but if you want a reliable source showing the same
info, wow-heroes is my recommendation :o)

Yep, the advanced thing on the armory is pretty cool and helpful.
Wowhead could be nice but it's so far out of date on my characters that
I found it a useless waste of web space. That was many weeks ago. I'll
have to check it again.

Yeah, I don't get that part, either. What's the difference between
average ilvl and equipped?

It is a neat feature, but I also prefer WoW Heroes. Used to like Be
Imba, but a few days ago it was still showing me in my old Prot gear
from like a year ago, despite clicking "Get new info" or whatever.
And, unlike WoW Heroes, the Armory will only check to see that an
enchant is present, not if it's the best enchant or even if it matches
your spec.

I do find the Armory takes a few days to update. It'll update new gear
after a day or two, but not update the graphics for several days. IME,
anyway.

And one feature I miss about the old Armory was the ability to
mouseover an item and "Find an Upgrade". Some of the results were
iffy, but I still liked the feature.

Just checked two of my characters on wowhead. It seems wowhead is using
data from before the big patch. WAY before the patch. My level 85 priest
is showing up as a level 80, achievements show nearly 1000 points to
low. All her gear shown is the old purple PvP gear. Two of her newest
titles are missing. Wowhead's profiler seems pretty worthless.

Do I have to download the Wowhead Client to make this work? Last time I
did that, a couple of years ago, that client was hogging bandwidth and I
deleted it. I'm not likely to run that again but I had poor internet
access then.

One cute thing about the Profiler is watching it assemble your character
from a wire frame, to a naked model, to dressing the model's gear one by
one until it's finished. It's like it's building something in an
assembling line.

Resync the character, easy enough - they've made the button harder to
find now but it's in a dropdown menu under "Manage Character" button,
top right corner of the profile.

Well, you do if you want the latest info, rather that whatever Armory
is showing; since it resyncs from armory if you don't use the
profiler. At which point I see nothing it offers over the Armory
itself (I don't use the profiler myself any more and as a result,
don't use wowhead's profiles often)

Yeah, but that site really needed updating last time I was there (about
a week ago). Still, great site even just with what they have already.

I also like MaxDPS.com, although it has not been updated for all
classes and specs since Cata.

It offers the find an upgrade feature that the armory used to have.

It's a bit better too as you can filter the results to exclude items
that the default search returns (for example, I add hit rating = 0 and
resilience = 0 as filters for my priest)

Of course, this just saves a bit of typing because you can find this
info out without synchronising with wowhead.

Yeah I tend to just search manually for items I want to upgrade anyway
:-) I prefer the armory's layout for character presentation now I
think; wowhead used to be great but now armory has more info it's much
improved I think, I especially like the reforging details on armory,
nice bit of info on what I've done!

That's odd, I find the gear updates to be very quick. I just changed
from my healing gear to my DPS gear, logged out and refreshed the page
and it had already been updated.

The graphics still showed my healing gear though. :)

Ah, thanks! That looked like a login button so I ignored it.
Now it's up to date.
I have (had maybe?) an account on wowhead, but forgot my password and
haven't tried to get it reset since it's been such a long time ago.
