Even teachers can be pretty stupid when they can't see past the phony
facade Coulter exploits to her advantage.

Which goes right back to the idea that you know what is proper speech,
and you have the right to limit those who disagree with you. Which puts
you in the same category as Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Ho, Saddam, and a whole
host of totalitarian dictators.

Didn't say I know what proper speech is. Just said that the provost
was at least being considerate enough to make her aware of how things
are in Canada. She didn't have to pay any heed to his forewarning if
she didn't want to. That's up to her. But he felt he should at least
advise her of any potential problems. If she still wanted to cross
over the line, she still could've done it. But her snapping back at
him for being courteous is like her telling you to go fuck yourself
for politely advising her not to swear in front of your 4-year-old
kid. The negative reaction is not only uncalled for, but overly
extreme to a well-meaning gesture, which can only suggest that either
she's sticking with her phony Coulter facade act to drum up more
interest in her, being her livelihood, or she's got major perceptual
problems going on in her brain, which unsurprisingly would explain why
she's still not hooked up with anyone, whether male or female, at 48.
Who could live with that constant abuse 24/7?

1. If you believe that the provost's letter was intended to be polite,
you are on drugs.

2. You have spoken in support of Canada's "hate speech" laws. That means
that you believe you know what is "proper" speech, and you believe you
have the right to limit or repress all speech which you(or Canadian law)
deem improper.

Once again, this puts you in the class of a whole host of bloody
dictators, some of whom are mentioned above.

Did you read the letter? Was there anything impolite about it? Like
what?

No, I can say that you're a fucking idiot who deserves to be carved up
as hamburger meat and eaten by ravenous hyenas if I want to. Anybody
can say anything they want. The fact of the matter is that there's a
law in place. It doesn't impinge on anyone to say anything, it's
there for those who are rightly offended by something that is directed
at them to take action against the offender. Just making someone
aware that such a law exists is a courtesy that anyone in Canada
should extend to guests. If they still want to say what they want to
say, so be it, say it. At least they know what the possible
consequences may arise from it. There's no barrier to speech. In
fact, even the U.S. has hate crime laws. The difference is that
their form of hate speech laws is reduced to defamation, slander and
libel. If it goes beyond that definition of hate speech, that's when
the U.S.'s hate crime laws kick in. Very little difference between
the two countries.

Freedom is responsibility, otherwise you just end up with anarchy.
Anarchy seems to be what you favor, which necessitates dictatorship to
control it. So clearly your thinking is completely backwards and
upside down at the same time.

Yes. Some think that our free speech is limited. So how does that
work? How do we have the right to free speech, but it is limited by
government, the very power that the First Amendment itself limits?

Canadians don't and neither do any Europeans have the same level of
liberty we have. We can say what we want, and not only can we be
critical of government, but we can be very critical of government
since it is we who run this country, not some monarchy, or thug
dictator. And, I would like to take this opportunity to say that
Canada is behind the times. The staff of Ottawa U. who warned Ann in
advance that they may prosecute her speech are all tyrants, dictators,
and authoritarian thugs, in my humble opinion.

People can say whatever they want in Canada. The speech law is not
for them, it's for those who wish to contest those who perniciously
offend. Think of it as your defamation, libel and slander laws. The
provost merely advised Coulter, out of common sense courtesy, to be
mindful of that because, obviously, she wouldn't've been aware of the
law, just as you hadn't a clue as to its existence before you read
about this. But, you know, I'll remember how much freer you Americans
are with your speech next time you allow Osama bin Laden to speak at
an American university, perhaps one not far from the 9/11 site. I
won't hold my breath, though.

What a hypocrite! After 9/11 you wanted all dissenting speech ended,
right now! You supported Bush and Cheney as they just about removed
the first amendment.

Face it, you only want speech that you approve of.
