How to upgrade ARDB in Ubuntu

Hi all,
After trying to build the latest version of ARDB from souce for Ubuntu 10.10
64bit (and failing), I went back at how I installed ARDB in the first place
in Ubuntu (quoted below), and used a few steps out of there to upgrade my
existing version. Or overwrite it. Or something.
To UPGRADE:
1: Download the latest openSUSE file from
http://code.google.com/p/ardb/down...
to somewhere temporary
2: Extract* the .tar.gz
3: Navigate into the created folder
4: Extract the .rpm
5: Copy the ardb executeable from the extracted /usr/local/bin directory
into your system's /usr/local/bin, over-writing the old one (will require a
sudo instance of nautilus, or use the terminal if you know what you're
doing. You may then need to give your user account ownership of the file.
This time I used the command line:
sudo cp ./ardb /usr/local/bin/ardb
)
6: Navigate to the .ardb folder in your user directory
7: Copy the resources.tar.gz found at step 3 into the .ardb folder, and
extract it inside your .ardb folder (so you should have new files in your
..ardb/resources/ folder)
8. Use the new version's "update from file" menu option to update from the
promo-modified vtescsv.zip file.
9. Cheer!
* "Extract" -> In Nautilus (the file browser), just right click the file and
choose "Extract here".

How To: Install ARDB in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (64 bit) THE HARD WAY
(may or may not work for 32 bit)
1: Download the latest openSUSE file from
http://code.google.com/p/ardb/down...
to somewhere temporary
2: Extract the .tar.gz
3: Navigate into the created folder
4: Extract the .rpm
5: Copy the ardb executeable from the extracted /usr/local/bin directory
into your system's /usr/local/bin (will require a sudo instance of
nautilus, or use the terminal if you know what you're doing. You may
then need to give your user account ownership of the file. Again, i used
a sudo nautilus, because I don't know the command line way)
6: create a .ardb folder in your user directory
7: Copy the resources.tar.gz found at step 3 into the .ardb folder, and
extract it
8: I needed to then install libwxgtk2.8-0 (I used 'sudo apt-get install
libwxgtk2.8-0')
9: I think because I was using a 64 bit system I also needed to install
getlibs (the .deb file from
http://frozenfox.freehostia....
) to
get dependent libraries for stuff I've installed. I'm not really sure
what I was doing, but I then ran 'sudo getlibs -p libwxgtk2.8-0'
10: I then installed libwxbase2.8-0 ('sudo apt-get install
libwxbase2.8-0'), and did a getlibs on it ('getlibs -p libwxbase2.8-0')
11: Then to create a shortcut to it in the menu:
system -> preferences -> main menu
I chose the folder 'Other', and clicked 'new item'.
Fill in whatever you want to name it, a comment, pick any icon you feel
like by clicking on the icon button. The only important thing is the
'command' section, where you just type 'ardb' (without the quotes).
Because the ardb executable is in /usr/bin/local, Ubuntu can find it by
itself.
12: Run ardb from your menu icon. It'll download the new csv file. Then
choose 'download images' from the ardb menu, and wait.
13: Make some decks!
Note: Anytime some step wasn't working, I'd just try and run the command
from a terminal, and watch the error message. I'd then search the ubuntu
forums for that message. Took about an hour all up to get the above
working, including a lot of searching and downloading packages, and a
lot of fail trying to get 'alien' to work :)
I am pretty sure I posted something like this previously for an older
version. I probably should have searched this group for that, too.
Big thanks to Graham and everyone else involved in this project,
particularly the openSUSE person, whoever that is :)
