Nicomedes + Shaal Fragment

Haze

11/25/2010 2:43:00 AM

Nicomedes [HttB:U]
Cardtype: Vampire
Clan: Harbinger of Skulls
Group: 4
Capacity: 5
Discipline: aus for nec vic
Sabbat. Black Hand: Once each of your turns, Nicomedes may burn a
blood to shuffle your hand into your library (draw afterward).

Shaal Fragment [HttB:R]
Cardtype: Equipment
Clan: Harbinger of Skulls
Burn Option
Unique equipment. Nod fragment.
+2 hand size. Any vampire may steal this equipment as a (D) action.

Equip him with the fragment (Vast Wealth helps here), get 9 hand size.
Pay a blood to get 9 new cards on your turn, any time you want. Throw
in an elder library or Dreams for even more chances to get the cards
you want. Anyone else tried using this little combo?

I tried using him in a HoS wall deck with Mordechai Ben-Nun (+1
intercept, ANI) and had mixed results. The hand-shuffling ability
worked beautifully, and I was using it every turn to go fishing for
useful master cards or parts of odd combos. Nobody tried stealing the
fragment, or maybe they just forgot. On the other hand, I found
playing HoS wall to be a complete bore-fest that earned 0 vps, and
resetting my hand was not as useful when I'm sitting on reactions.

I'm wondering if this would be better in some kind of HoS bleed deck,
if an effective one could be made? or maybe as support for another
clan entirely? the Fragment does have a burn option, in case you never
draw Nicomedes from the crypt. Any ideas or suggestions?

I've used Nicomedes by himself, which is good enough. The Shaal
Fragment increases your hand size, sure, but you also need to defend
it. Which is one more thing you have to defend.

Nicomedes would be wasted in any established archetype. Use him for
that one deck that would be hilariously broken if the library didn't
have a horrible composition. Atonement + skill cards, disciplineless
Black Hand Gehenna hell, decks that hinge on Enkil Cog, X Clan
Impersonates to Y and does Z, stuff like that.

Use Storage Annex to store cards that you don't want to dump.

Use Lilith's Blessing to bolt a discipline on Nicomedes and to fuel
his ability.

If you're using him as a support minion consider Remover, Census
Taker, Anima Gathering, Guarded Rubrics or Bauble.

I was thinking that you could use him with Guillaume Giovanni. At
least they both have nec and somtimes having a handsize of 15-16 cards
just dosent cut it :P

HoS wall shouldn't be a borefest. lots of stuff you can do.
You can go the anarch route, play Slaughterhouses, Border Skirmishes
and oust with Constant Revolution.
You can do Black Hand stuff with Nico and Sennadurek, get Chronicle of
the Lost Tribe, W:FRF, Psychic Assaults etc and oust with Smiling
Jack.
Or you can just do pretty typical stuff like sniper rifles and smiling
jack. You have a few options and all should be pretty entertaining.
Very strong crypt synergy in Nico's group with strong cross-clan guys
like Neighbour John or even some !Salubri. You can use Sabbat tools
like Abbot and Coyote.
Don't forget Admonitions either if you want to minimax your hand /
card drawing antics.

Your bread won't get moldy if you put it in the freezer.

Where should I put Steve Guttenberg?

Why not skip a step and throw it out immediately upon getting it home?

Or two steps and just not buy it at all ...

If the world weren't full of Ms Fluke's, doctors would still prescribe it
for VD.
