Replacing the White Wolf Tournament Calendar

The Lasombra

10/5/2010 1:00:00 AM

Have any of you used (deployed) any of the open source web calendars?

Do you have a specific recommendation that V:EKN could use to replace
White Wolf's tournament calendar?

Here are some examples:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/we...
http://www.ultraapps.com/app_overview.php...
http://www.ma.utexas.edu/we...

http://www.google.com/enterprise/marketplace/search?categoryId=2&orde...

Alternately, does anyone know what White Wolf used?
It would be easy to clean up their input to get better results.

A point worth consideration. Should we be expecting the various WW
resources to be vanishing, and planning for alternatives?

Slightly off-topic to this, but an 'official' (in as close as
possible, adopted by people like LSJ / Oscar / The Coordinators /
Yourself considering our defunct status) location for this all to be
hosted would be quite important, too. We have something of a
fragmentation already, with multiple forums dotted here & there,
mostly due (imo) to the abomination that is the WW forum software. I
think having these various resources centrallised would go a long way
to ensuring the games' survival.

All those resources are currently being centralised.

In my professional projects, I use DHTMLX Scheduler. Very nice
component.

Efficient, simple to use.

If they can't be bothered to spend 30 minutes to fix existing issues,
it is relatively safe to assume that they won't spend 30 minutes
removing existing functionality.

That doesn't mean that better solutions shouldn't be pursued
immediately.

My thoughts exactly. The website support has been all but nothing and
only after complaining by the player base. I don't see how it is in
the players interest to rely on anything from their site for organized
play.

Especially if they aren't going to be the 'official' sponsors of
events anymore, we have no reason not to centralize
everything(including rankings) on whatever takes over those
administrative tasks.

I agree. I also think in the future, as a player base, we should keep
a separation between event organisation (i.e. Quals, Cont Champs, etc)
and prize support.

I have no idea what this means.

Can you expand on these thoughts?

I'm coming in quite late here, but what I think he means is that the player
organisation, with it's qualifiers, championships, rankings, ratings,
calendar, etc should stay with the players, and that if WW or some other
company picks vtes up again, we should continue to maintain it all as
players, and just accept prize and financial support from said company,
without handing over the organisation to them.

I'm personally not sure if that's the right way to go, but I think that's
what he meant.
