I had a great time in New Orleans this weekend. Big thanks to Oscar
and everyone else who was running the show.

-Matt

Deck Name : Hannibalism
Author : Matt Hirsch
Description :
The main strategy of the deck is to get the best use out of
Hannibal(A)'s untap ability to act twice on my own turn, then be able
to untap later for defense if needed. There is a clear vote strategy
in the deck, but I also put in a good amount of toolbox.

2x Wake with Evening's Freshness

Stuff that really worked:
Life In The City, Giant's Blood, Institution Hunting Ground - Stuff
that fuels Hannibal's untap.

Golconda - Immensely useful. Used critically in the finals to
Golconda my torpored Hannibal and keep my game afloat.

Secure Haven - Another critical card in the finals. Saved me from
Deep Song rush.

Blessing of Chaos, Touch of Clarity - There was a lot of Dementation
bleed flying around all day, so counter-tech like this was really
worthwhile.

Restructure - Stole Remnant of the Endless Storm in Round 1 and
Carlton in Round 2.

Sibyl's Tongue - Provides nearly full access to the deck's toolbox.
Hannibal can play Sibyl's for a critical action card, immediately
untap, and perform the action.

Stuff that didn't quite work:
Anarchist Uprising, Ancilla Empowerment, Domain Challenge - These are
usually my "nuclear option" vote cards for shaking up the table,
sometimes ousting multiple methuselahs at once. But they didn't see
much use in the tournament. Once in round 3, I did Hannibal's Domain
Challenge trick , (play it and untap to take zero pool damage) but my
opponent only had 2 tapped minions anyways.

Shattered Mirror, Reality Mirror - Never played. I'm not sure I even
drew Shattered Mirror. There wasn't much good fodder for Reality
Mirror. (usually agg poke or agg strikes are the best for that.)

Babble - The concept that I had intended here was to offer Hannibal's
untap cross-table. However, I always saw Babble too early (or too
painfully late) for the trick to be viable. If I was playing the deck
again, though, I would still keep both copies in.

Congrats! Very interesting and multi-faceted deck. Do you feel like
the combination of bleed reduction and bounce served you well?

Heh. It makes me super happy that the deck that won the NAC has a
Sawed-Off Shotgun in it.

I´m sure it´s just to scare all those scary combat decks away :)

Out of curiosity, given all his crazy untappy goodness, why no Enkil
Cog? He seems really well suited for it.

The reason is that I don't own one, and I didn't really consider it,
so I didn't go looking to borrow one.

But it's not a bad idea...

I'll give credit where credit's due here. When I played the shotgun
in round 1, Darby immediately recognized it as "John Eno tech."

Thanks!

Yeah, I like to play with both if I can. Once some people see bounce,
they assume that's all you're using, and throwing in the reduction
will trip them up. Being unpredictable is good.

This is a great deck; built and played by a great guy.
I am happy that it, and you are our 2010 North American Champion.

That card would likely make my top 10 list of underplayed cards.

Quick look at the deck and no;

Deflection
Pentex
Carlton
Majesty

Nice to see something win that doesn't play any of those. Also nice
to see Malk and friends do something other than play Kindred Spirits
and win. Makes my Malk vote decks seem a bit less loney.

Heh. Glad to know I was there in spirit if not in the flesh.

John Eno
