RE: Surviving the Long Night

Juggernaut1981

So since everyone is on about "What do we do now?" Can we possibly
organise amongst ourselves to take this opportunity to basically reset
the various things we've disliked or think needed improving such as:

- Centralised VTES Website (a broad forum for things like playgroups,
rulings, pages for Tournaments & photos)

- Revamped Rankings System

- Centralised way to publish things like Storylines

Are there other things? Are there people who would want to join in
these developments (assuming they're not already underway and under
wraps with Robyn et al)?

Really, I think if the game survives and thrives for a few years, WW
will start publishing it again. It seems like, right now, sales have
been sluggish on most sets and anyway CCP wants the WW team's
resources all put towards getting the online WoD game going. Once
that's done, and once stockpiles of old sets have mostly left the
warehouse shelves, I think they'll want to bring back a profitable
product. Provided there's evidence it'll be profitable. The
precedent of the first years in the wilderness and the strong sales of
Sabbat War is a good start. We just need to keep the game alive for a
while now.

Personally, I do NOT want any quasi-official fan sets or home-made
rulebooking while the hope of official republication is alive.

What you propose doing all sounds good. A real website would be a
boon.

What I'm going to do is get the Clan Newsletter I wrote (Harbingers of
Skulls) back on something like a regular schedule. And maybe put some
illustrations or fiction in it.

Also, I'm going to put some time and energy into trying to restart
regular play here in Bloomington, Indiana. We had it going for a
couple of years but never reached a critical mass. I'll try again.

Finally, I'm playing Hoosier Lotto whenever the pot is above $10M and
when I win I'll see if I can afford the license to VTES.

I bet $10M wouldn't be enough.

Things seem to be moving along nicely each day. Priority now is on
getting organized (re-forming a player's organization). I'm sure there
will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to help in some way. I'm
waiting for people to meet up at the NAC and speak at length about all
of these matters.

Could you please keep us "Distant Kindred" in the loop? I'd be
willing to help out where I can but not being able to stump up the $10k
+ for me (and my wife) to travel to the NAC just to rock up and maybe
not even play, is a bit out of the question.

I'm not headed to the NAC either. But giving everyone a chance to
talk and put together a plan--including for communicating what the
heck is going on--seems like a good first step.

It would take a while to make the proper website you talk of (as a
website manager). And everyone would have to be on the same page to
move all the respective and current websites to one central location.
Not all over the place like it is now. Certainly such an inviting
website would be one step closer to attracting new players.

Does anyone know if White Wolf is going to continue hosting the V:tES
web pages?
Or do we need to shift everything over to another site?

That centralised website is already under construction. Jussi Hattara
and others are working on it.

Yes, the development has been going on since spring 2010. Not at a very
fast pace, but stuff has been done already. If you want to help contact
me and I´ll get you into our communication. Needless to say that the
announcement speeded things up a bit. The current plan is to have
something that works by the end of the year.

And now with the current news I'll redouble my efforts to make it
happen, once I get this month's outstanding work and private issues
sorted out.
