This last Sunday we met at D&J hobby in Campbell. D&Js is new to
hosting VTES and we're glad to welcome them into the fold.
Congratulations to Gerentt on his win, his first tournament win in
California as far as I know. Rather than doing some kind of lame 6-
player musical chairs style tournament, we went with 1 big table. This
is unorthodox, but so was our decision to do 2 rounds no final. At the
end of two rounds, it was clear which the better deck was. It was also
clear why Salubri bloat decks are no fun. Remind me to play with Final
Loosening if this format comes up again....
Here's his TWD and a brief report:
6players
Winning Player: Gerentt Chan
Winning Clan: Kiasyd
Key Minion: The Arcadian
Faction: The broken one (Lilith's Blessing)
Description of Deck:
This is a fairly straightforward Kiasyd stealth bleed deck; Gremlins/
Bonding for 3bleed at 2 stealth at no cost is fantastic. High capacity
of Kiasyds offset by Villein/Lilith's Blessing. Main weakness being
combat decks, I incorporated Changelin Ward, Secure Haven, Faerie
Wards to foil rushes; the sneaky combat ends stealth cards for when
intercepted, and a small combat package for some payback.
During the first game, this deck overran Andy's Baali/Call the Great
Beast/Soul Gem deck before it got started, then proceeded likewise on
Ian's Abomination/a million Masters deck. Secure Haven on Dame
Hollerton allowed her to Deflect Saulot's Spirit's Marionettes in
peace. Game timed out for 2.5VP.
2nd game I had trouble ousting Ian due to an Eagle Sighting Salubri
predator (Alex) on my tail. Ossian and interception from Alex reduced
me to 1 vampire, Isanwayan. Successful final bleed at 4stealth to
squeak through yet another Eagle's Sight. A successful topdeck for
Bonding did the trick. Another time out.
Both games this deck stalled behind Salubri bloat decks (2 in a
6player table). Eric had over 30pool during the 2nd game when time was
called.

Some notes from Andy Haas, the tournament organizer and now Prince of
San Jose:
As for interesting anecdotes, the winning Kiyasyd were constantly
being rushed by the Abominations deck on the table leading to some
amusing combat.
"Pariah will follow us to the end of the earth!" -Kiyasyd
In every game Cybele blew up into the Great Beast and another large
Baali using the Soul Gem of Etrius.
"We have to stop Cybele" -Everyone at the table
Also, you might be interested to note that Samedi were quite popular
in this area, making an appearance in every tournament but never doing
especially well. I think Off Kilter and interesting crypt cards were
responsible for this good work on that.
