The Apocalypse Clock:
I didn't think I'd like the game based on the title, but having read the
intro, it was actually wacky enough to keep my interest. Good job!
The story itself was rather silly, but the humor was actually funny,
unlike so many other comp games that tried and failed. Sara must've been
Garfield in disguise. Well, maybe not for the Cockney accent, but still.
:-) Hilariously silly.
Unfortunately, the implementation left a lot to be desired: the tunnel
opened, but I couldn't examine it. One would think it wasn't just
decoration... and going into the tunnel without a light still leaks
information about the things in it. And one should at least be able to
come back out in that case. Then you can open the metallic door without
using the tape, which ruins that part of the puzzle. And LOOK AT DOCTOR
gives "You can't see any such thing". Hmm?
OVERALL: 4. The story was unfortunately way too short, which makes all
the jokes juvenile in retrospect. Had it been more substantial, and had
more (funny) puzzles, the jokes could've been justified. As it is, it's
barely better than Conan Kill Everything.
Writing: 6 The humor can be funny... but this is certainly no
literary masterpiece.
Setting: 3 The story is silly enough that the completely haphazard
setting seems justifiable. Unfortunately, it lacks
depth.
Story: 3 Too short. It *could've* been better had it featured a
more involved plot. Unfortunately, as it stands it's
only silly.
Puzzles: 4 Pretty straightforward, although the A-clock was a good
device to push the player onward. Unfortunately, there
weren't enough puzzles to make the story worthwhile.
Technical: 3 Many nagging problems. Nothing fatal, but annoying
nonetheless.
Brownie: 1 One Brownie point for a silly plot that's actually
funny. Unfortunately, it was presented only as a
consolation prize.
