Playstation 2 card slots on PS3

I have a PS2 game I still love to play (Gallop Racer 2006). I have a
backwards compatible PS3. My PS2 died and I don't really have access
to another. I can play Gallop Racer, the game works flawlessly,

What I'd like to do is import horses acquired online into my game
(it's a popular online hobby to swap horses).

On a PS2, you plug "your" save card into slot one on the PS2, the swap
file into slot two, and then you open up an ingame utility which
facilitates the import.

Is there any way to do this on a PS3? I'm not really sure how the
"virtual" memory cards work.

No. There's an adapter you can buy that plugs into a USB cable that
you plug into the PS3. From there, you can import your PS2 saves into
a data folder on your PS3. That data folder is the "virtual" memory
card you're referring to.

Is there any way to assign the memory cards to slot one and slot two
and have the program recognize it?

Yes. You can create as many virtual cards as you want, and you pick
which ones are in slots 1 and 2.

With the last couple of firmware updates, you can actually directly access the
old PS2 memory card in the adapter.
