OT: stairway copyright trial

Might be a case here. You do find the descending chromatic bass line everywhere, but the halving of the harmonic rhythm on the Fmaj7 chord in both riffs seems like an improbable coincidence.

We'll probably never know for sure but the line is SO common among guitar players and the Fmaj7 is logical. I looked at this last week and thought it's another bad news bear for creativity. Another thought was, when will the lawsuit be filed against the estate of Randy California because he ripped off the song similar to it, as would be claimed by someone else. And then backwards in time until the first fretted string player who stumbled on that line.

That descending line is one of the oldest cliches in music. When they found the Divje Babe flute in Slovenia in 1995, which dates back over 40,000 years, there was a piece of parchment with that line and at the top of the page was written, STH (originally T by S).
